I’m going to be taking BEC in August and I was wondering what I should be doing to prepare for the written communication section.

Whichever review course you're doing likely has essay prompts built into it. Basically, you need to be writing brief examples with an emphasis on keywords. I got into the habit of writing out a bunch of keywords first, and then organizing them and writing out complete sentences around them. I used that tactic on the actual exam and it appears to have paid off.

For what it's worth, I used the Gleim review and Wiley test bank and both had numerous WC practice prompts.

Also, what's your comfort level with FAR material? Essays can come from ANY accounting topic, which means FAR material has a high probability of being on the essays. Based on your other scores, I'm guessing you'll be fine. However, if intermediate accounting wasn't your strong suit in school, you will want to revisit common concepts just in case.

Hi, here is my opinion on BEC WC. Generally, if English is your first language, they should not be a problem. They test mostly your ability to effectively construct business communication. They look for things like spelling, avoiding run-ons, and proper punctuation.

Keep it simple and concise, and don't use words you don't understand to sound fancy. Also, and most importantly- do not freak out if you get a prompt you don't know the answer to. I had no clue whatsoever on 2 of the 3 prompts I was given. They are not usually graded for correctness, they are graded for content. Any review course should have some examples to practice and get comfortable with.

Thanks @Rusty, I knew it was gonna be close. I underestimated how busy we would get approaching tax deadlines, and probably should have pushed AUD about two weeks :/

Oh well, still super excited to be done with it.
