I have a quick questions in regards to the written portion of the exam. Does the exam automatically address to the individual your writing to? For example, To: John Doe; Re: Cutco, Inc. I looked over the 2012 released SIM and it seems that they do that for you, but I just wanted to double check and make sure.

To add, would you have to add to the ending, kindest regards, or sincerely depending on the format?

    Yes, it's automatically addressed.

Typically memos say the following at the top…

    To:

    From:

    Date:

    Subject (or RE):

Since the exam only automatically puts the “To” in there, my review course (Yaeger) recommends that you put as the first subject line something like “this memo was prepared by Nancy Jones, CPA Candidate, on August 31, 2012. The direction s on the exam specifically state to use complete sentences, so make sure you don't put the format I did above.

Also, memos are not signed and therefore don't require a closing like “sincerely” or “best regards.” Just add a closing paragraph that summarizes the key points and offers additional assistance if needed.

    Good luck!
