I have a question regarding the Written Communication portion of BEC….

Does the end of the memo have to have a closing such as,

    “Sincerely,

    Chief Financial Officer”

    OR

Is it okay just to give a closing sentence such as, “If you have any question please contact me at your earliest convenience.”?

    OR

    Should I do both?

    Thanks for the help guys

I think you might be better off with a “Sincerely.”

    BEC - 90 PASSED
    FAR - 84 PASSED
    AUD - 93 PASSED
    REG - 84 PASSED

    I DID IT!!!!

With your amazing score on BEC, I'm taking your word for it…..

Did you put a “sincerely” at the end of your memos?

It's weird because Becker doesn't end the memos with a Sincerely, but I looked around and saw some written communications with different endings.

Yaeger suggests that the first line of your memo say, “this memo has been prepared by Joe Smith, CPA Candidate, on August 22, 2012.” Typical memos have the following format:

    To:

    From:

    Date:

    Re:

On the exam, I believe they just fill in the “To” section for you, and they don't give you a place for the other info.

I've never seen a memo signed with “Sincerely, Joe Smith.” I think that's just reserved for letters. Please someone correct me if I'm wrong.

On a memo I would not even put a signature, and would just close it with a note about how you are open to talk about the issue at hand if needed. If it is a letter directly addressed to someone in a company, I put “Regards”. This is real world practice, as I work in a corporate environment.

    AUD - 74, (1/21/13)
    BEC - 76 (7/12)
FAR - 60, (Not rescheduled yet)
    REG - (Not scheduled)

    apbandj is correct.

You don't end a memo with a Sincerely, Pete. The recipient knows who it is from already from the memo heading. Improper format IMO.

    REG - Passed!!
    BEC - Passed
    FAR - Passed
    AUD - Passed

I was in such a rush that I didn't even thank about ending it with a signature. I just wrote something like “I look forward to discussing _____ with you in greater detail”
