Well, the day has finally arrive – those familiar with my story, this is my refcoused effort at BEC.

Some last minute questions that hopefully my A71 family can help me with…..

how much time should i allot for the WC’s?

I feel confident about most of the theory and a little iffy on some of the computation problems, which is my worry. I guess it will be luck of the draw. Either way I know I have a better grasp of the material from when I took it back in 2008 so I know I’ll improve, but at some point improving isnt enough…i just hope i can make enough steps forward to pass this thing.

Any advice, guidance would be great 🙂

I left myself with 30 minutes for WC. For some reason I thought there'd only be one of them not three. Needless to say I rushed and ended up getting a comparable on it. My stratagy was to get as many key terms on the page as I could becuase I think the computer picks up on those as it grades.

Looking back, it would have been nice to have 45-50 minutes for it, so I think you should shoot for that.

I'm testing same day. I'm going to try to leave one hour.

I allowed 45 minutes for the WC and thought that was sufficient.

I went through and wrote rough drafts for all 3 and that took me about 25 minutes. Then I went back and made some changes/additions/improvements. I did it that way so in case I ran out of time, I would at least have something for each memo.

    Good luck!

I took it before the 2011 changes, but everything I've seen on it and from others that took it say 15-ish minutes on each of the three is fine (45 minutes total). Many seem ok with just 30 minutes, but that seems tight to me once you factor in exam day stress and that it is at the end of the exam.

If you never take any advice from me again…take this: Leave 60 mins for the WC! Not 59 not 61. 60 mins!

Being the great writer that I thought I was, I got fancy and left 30 mins for the WC. My 2nd and 3rd WC's I had about 8 pitiful sentences for both! Of course I scored weaker on the WC portion and didn't pass.

This past time I left an hour and was comfortable.

Like Dale said, definitely factor in exam day stress. By the time you get to the end, your brain is mush too.

Good luck and don't underestimate the WC. Leave time. Now go get em!

I think I left 60 minutes, and that was more than sufficient for me to plan, write, and then go back and proofread my writing.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but you're not graded on WC for accuracy, correct? That's what I understood from my review course.

For example, if you get a question about how to calculate depreciation expense using SL method, you can be 100% wrong on how you explain it, and still get 100% if your form is good (ex: professional introduction and conclusion, good grammar) and you stay on topic (by using key words from the question). You're graded for your technical writing skills NOT technical accounting skills (This year anyways, maybe it will change next year once they have the difficulty of questions established). Since the computer grades it you could probably even have a couple sentences in there about gumdrops and rainbows and it wouldn't hurt you.

Makes it pretty easy points IMO – as long as you leave sufficient time for yourself. Definitely stress form over content.
