    Hello ladies and gentlemen:

I’m taking BEC June 9th and just completed a practice test on Wiley CPA (67- need to improve). I finished the exam with one hour 40 minutes left.

I wanted to ask people for their time budgeting strategy. My thought is give yourself 1hour 30 minutes for the MC and leave the rest of the time for the TBS and writing tasks.

    What does everyone think?

    Thanks

Hey @dgg135 I had the same question in the BEC Q2 2018 forum without reply:

Hello! The last time I sat for CPA exams was 2014. Does anyone have recommendations on how much time to spend on each section of the exam i.e. MCQ1 – 45 min. MCQ2 – 45min. TBS – 105 min. WC 45 min.? Cheers! T

Becker's recommended guidelines (2012) are 1 – 1.5 min. per MC question. For TBS on BEC I have heard that 2 hours is necessary. I am also using Wiley CPA with scores in the 60's to 70's…exam tomorrow! This is my plan:

    MCQ1 45 min
    MCQ2 45 min
    TBS 2 hours
    WC 30 min

    Hi tbizzle,

When you mention 1.5 minute per question, how is this possible if there is a paragraph like question? I literally only have 30 seconds to read and 1 minute to figure out pretty much but sometimes those questions takes way longer. What is your advise on that? I figured some questions should be doable but on my first testlet, I end up getting some questions where I am like ” okay I need at least 2 minutes on this question.” Should I just guess if I don't know it or try to solve it and maybe get the right answer?

Remember some questions will be theoretical and shorter, and some will be longer.
Don't focus on your time spent on each question, just try to wrap up the testlet in the allotted 45 minutes. If you get a simple econ question you will be able to answer in less than 1:45 and move on, saving time for other longer more difficult/computational questions.
Practice lots of MCQs and you should be fine. Give yourself mini testlets of 30+MCQs and watch your time.

I just sat for BEC yesterday morning, and let me tell you, the time I took on the Wiley practice exams was nothing like the real thing. I also finished every BEC practice exam with 1.5-2 hours remaining, but I submitted the BEC exam yesterday with only 1 spare minute! I felt pretty good about the 1st testlet until I noticed it took me 56 minutes, and I had to pick up the pace from there. I still had plenty of time to complete the exam, but just be sure to keep an eye on the clock.
