Spear Corp. had sales of $2,000,000, a profit margin of 11%, and assets of $2,500,000. Spear decided to reduce its debt ratio to 0.40 from 0.50 by selling new common stock and using the proceeds to repay principal on some outstanding long-term debt. After the refinancing, what is Spear's return on equity, assuming that the profit margin does not change?
    3.5%
    5.3%
    14.7%
    22.9%
CAN some one explain me this Q.

@cpa007- I remember doing this one a while back. I think I remember how to do it lol.

Since the debt ratio (debt/assets) was .5, that means that debt is 1,250,000. That must mean that SE is 1,250,000 since A = L + SE. If the debt ratio is being lowered to .4 then that means that debt is now 1 million and S/E is now 1,500,000.

ROE is Net Income / Ave SE so you take net income of 220,000 (2,000,000 x 11%) and divide it by 1,500,000 giving you 14.7%

Here's a resource that covers a lot of concepts on this exam. It helps simplify some of the areas that many of us have trouble with. I've been going through them little by little and they've been helping to clear some things up for me.

If you click on the drop down menu on the left side of the screen you can download all the power point slides for each chapter.

Hi, I have last window left. And I need to pass BEC and AUD in this window else I will loose REG. These are my previous score.
BEC 69,66 (of course i did not study as i was sick)Weak on every thing except Economics.
AUD 73. score weak on Evidence and reporting and sim.
I am planing to take AUD on OCT 30 and BEC on NOV 30 (which is my last day to take all exams.)Do you guys think i have a chance of passing if i study 1 month for each exam. BEC is night mare for me. I hated to study for this part of exam.
I had been studying for BEC since 1 week and did only wiley test bank.Score low as 60% to 80%. Average score is 80% after redoing wrong Question. I do not have NTS yet so i cannot schedule for AUD . From tomorrow i will study for AUD. I wanted to switch AUD last but i may not get NOV 30 as dates get filed very fast.
Please give me advice how to prepare for sims for AUD and attack BEC. Should i give more time to BEC as my scores are low.
People who had taken BEC more than twice ,what is your advice to pass this beast. Also English is my second language and you know by now after reading my story. ANY advice is greatly appreciated .

CPA007 I can't really help you out too much for BEC it is totally my nightmare and am currently studying for my re-take but can tell you what helped a great deal for me with AUD (and English is my first language 🙂 ) was to write out exactly what I thought the question was looking for before trying to answer. I have found with AUD in particular that a lot of times the hardest part about the question is how it is worded / understanding what they want as an answer. So I suggest you try doing that. It also helps a bit with BEC when they throw a lot of numbers at you. Read the last sentence first and work back from there.

    Good luck!

I agree with mckan514w it helps to read the last sentence to know exactly what they're asking for. Analyse the question before answering. and do daily progress test. In my opinion it'll be hard to do two sections in one quarter, but people have done it so it is possible. Just make sure you give it your all. BEC has more calculations so even if you have seen the same questions numerous times work the problem from start to end. AUD, take your time in understanding what their asking because I like to think AUD is a completely different language.

    Hi All,

Just pass audit and will be starting BEC. I plan on taking it the last day possible 11/30.

So I can get a try in this quarter so only 2 1/3 months left to study.

Now I keep reading they changed the exam.

As the test in this period. Is it still 85% MCQ & 15 some writing thing?

When will they change the format?

    Thank you all.

@hhung1485 Congrats and welcome to this study group. It is 85% MCQs and 15% for Writing. I Believe the changes will occur April of 2017. So let's knock this one out before they make it harder on us!

@Hhung, just so you know the last day of test for this quarter (based on the extended period) is 12/10 instead of 11/30.

@rosy0407 I am glad that you passed audit as well. Time to knock out the last cpa section. Hopefully this will be simpler than the rest.

yes I agree. They say that BEC is the easiest of the four, but let's not let our guard down. Just finished reading corporate governance and I noticed that majority of that section was covered in AUD which is a good thing.

    Hi guys,

Does PURE DADS SAD factor in the flexible budget variance at all? Like which would you use for it? Price?

    Hi guys,

I started studying BEC on August and completed the whole section in one month. I'm using Becker and used to get 75 or above, I decided to review all the chapters before I do any of the comprehensive exams in Becker because I felt I forgot the fist chapters. First 10 days of September passed without studying. Now I started reviewing again and I'm feel really lost and motivation is down.

Should I take notes for each chapter and review only notes before exams ?
Do you think Becker is enough or I need to practice more?
What is the best way to do it ?
