TheodoreParticipant@hhung1485 This is my first time around the book. Super behind, but let me try. A flexible budget allows mgt to use actual sales with budgeted cost per unit, budgeted contribution margin, and fixed costs. the one that i have yet to understand is the flexible budget variance, but that's a different topic. Check my calculations below:
Actual: 12,000 units
Budgeted: 10,000 unitsActual sales: $132,000
Budgeted sales: $100,000Budgeted cost per unit: $100,000/10,000 = $10/unit (use this $ for actual units sold)
Budgeted contribution margin: $40,000 (gross profit)/$100,000 (budgeted sales)= 40%Fixed costs stay the same for flexible budgets
Actual Flexible Budgeted
12,000 units 12,000 units 10,000 unitsSales $132,000 $120,000 (12k units x $10 Budgeted sales price) $100,000
VC ($70,800) ($72,000) (60% of budgeted sales) ($60,000)
CM $61,200 $48,000 (40% of budgeted sales) $40,000FC ($32,000) ($30,000) (Same as budgeted) ($30,000)
Ope. Inc. $29,200 $18,000 $10,000IF someone has a better way to explain this, go right ahead. several explanations are better than one.

TncincyParticipantYou can reschedule in the next window if you took the exam this window…..So more likely Jan…..Coughed up my money for BEC…I have this window, hopefully the passing begins. I intend to put in the structured time to study….feel miserable about failing reg and far but since the change is coming I guess I'll go with BEC…..regardless the money is spent so bec it is.

TheodoreParticipant@tncincy I haven't taken the exam yet. I am scheduled for Nov. 16 but I've had a couple of events that have not let me study like i wanted to and another is coming up. Business trip that will last about 2 weeks. I didn't really understand ch. 1,2,3. It feels like im rushing just to take it but don't feel prepared at all. I was thinking of rescheduling for Dec. 6 hoping that the business trip doesnt happen until after Dec. 6 and paying the fee or rescheduling for Jan. 9 in case the trip does happen that will give me an extra month to review review review. And if the business trip does not happen until sometime in december than i can reschedule from Jan 9 to dec. 6 with no additional fee. in other words I am not sure if rescheduling 3 times is a good idea.

IndivaParticipantCurrently studying for BEC, scheduled for November 21st.I am using Yaeger study materials and suppplementing with Ninja notes and MCQ. Is there a benefit to watching the video lectures? I would think that at this point I could copy the Ninja Notes, study them and work through MCQ.

jairvin3ParticipantHi BEC Study Group. I take the exam (my final section on 11/5) and I have a question I could use some clarity on that has been tripping me up in Ninja MCQ. It has to do with product vs. period cost under the direct or variable costing method. The question in reference is below:
Waldo Company, which produces only one product, provides its most current month's data as follows:
Selling price per unit $80
Variable costs per unit:
Direct materials 21
Direct labor 10
Variable manufacturing overhead 3
Variable selling and administrative 6
Fixed costs:
Manufacturing overhead $76,000
Selling and administrative 58,000
Units:
Beginning inventory 0
Month's production 5,000
Number sold 4,500
Ending inventory 500Based upon the above information, what is the total contribution margin for the month under the variable costing approach?
In the problem above, the variable selling and admin costs are getting included in the variable costs to come down to the contribution margin. I was under the impression that all selling and admin costs (both variable and fixed) would get included as period costs underneath gross margin and excluded from contribution margin.
Is it safe for me to assume that under both methods, fixed selling and admin costs would show as a period expense below gross margin?
How do you know when variable selling and admin costs are to be included in the product cost or if they are to be period costs?

TncincyParticipantHi gang, I just purchased the ninja videos for BEC…yes I have procrastinated for a few days, getting the tax extensions out of my system but I was wondering if the videos will be enough or will I need additional materials…..I do have cpaexcel but I get little irritate with the little bitty lessons…so time consuming. So videos or additional materials…I also have the ninja mcq's. Lord knows I need to pass.

Ukulele2011ParticipantTaking my first CPA exam tomorrow. I've been studying for BEC since mid-August and have used the Wiley book. I wrote almost the entire book over on a series of notepads, completed each section's set of MCQs, and used Ninja's MCQ (completed about 700 of them). We'll see how tomorrow goes. Having not taken any of the exams yet, I'm not sure how painful tomorrow will be. Based on the posts I've read through in this thread, it's a crap shoot. Will check back afterward with impressions. Wish me luck

AnonymousInactiveI just sat for BEC yesterday. For anyone who hasn't taken an exam, this is what my experience was like. The first testlet was so easy I thought I had way over-studied. The second testlet was so hard I thought I had under-studied. The third testlet was in between the two extremes, so I couldn't tell if it was supposed to be moderate or difficult. In the end I felt like there wasn't much more effective studying I could have done. My written communication wasn't about a ‘BEC topic,' so I just had to write a well-structured memo about common sense principles. Hopefully, my Roger CPA review material is right. He always says, “The CPA exam is a test of discipline. If you study, you will pass.” I studied, so I should pass, right? I'll follow up on November 22nd to say how it went.

AnonymousInactiveI would just ask yourself if you feel like you put in a reasonable amount of time studying. I originally planned to take it on the 11th. I rescheduled to yesterday. I could have been another 17 days into studying for AUD instead. The extra time probably didn't make a difference for me.
