U.S. travelers to Europe usually exchange dollars for euros. Assuming that the euro supply is static, how
does this currency exchange, considered in isolation, affect the demand for euros and the exchange rate?

    A. It increases demand and increases the dollar price of euros.
    B. It decreases demand and increases the dollar price of euros.
    C. It increases demand and decreases the dollar price of euros.
    D. It decreases demand and decreases the dollar price of euros.

Does anyone know what they mean by static? Don't remember reading anything about this.

@RE2PECT the amount of Euros that are available for purchase are the same. There is a limited supply.

    Thanks demarcon!

@Teal- The answer is A. It's one of the 2016 AICPA questions so there was no explanation for it. They have it under the medium difficulty, but I had no clue since I never heard of static supply before.

I just came across a question that is driving me crazy.

Suppose that a monopolist calculates that at the current level of sales and output, marginal costs is $3 and marginal revenue is $5. Under these conditions, profits could be increased by:

    A.
    increasing output and decreasing price.

    B.
    decreasing output and increasing price.

    C.
leaving output unchanged and decreasing price.

    D.
decreasing output and leaving price unchanged.

    Answer: A
“The monopoly can increase profits by increasing output and decreasing price as long as MR > MC (marginal revenue is greater than marginal costs). The firm will maximize profits by continuing to the point where at the given output MC = MR.”

Wouldn't B also be an acceptable answer to this problem? It seems to me that both A and B are correct.

B wouldn't be correct because the goal in economics is to have MR=MC. That's where there is optimal production. They would want to keep producing more because there are economies of scale to be had.

hi all. My someone shed some light on this McQ?

Because of changes that are occurring in the basic operations of many firms, all of the following represent trends in the way indirect costs are allocated, except:
    a.
Preferring plant-wide application rates that are applied to machine hours rather than incurring the cost of detailed allocations.
    b.
Using throughput time as an application base to increase awareness of the costs associated with lengthened throughput time.
    c.
Using cost drivers as application bases to increase the accuracy of reported product costs.
    d.
Using several machine cost pools to measure product costs on the basis of time in a machine center.

@hhung1485 – nowadays companies are more often using Activity Based Costing to allocate their overhead. Answer A would be the correct choice because companies aren't using plant wide anymore. The tricky part about the question is that they are correctly saying that machine hours are used as an overhead base, but it is per machine rather than plant-wide.

    Hi all,

I have question for the people who had the chance to take BEC before.
Sometimes I feel I'm NOT really good in the area of Loans, Bonds, and Interest Rate calculation questions.
I'm using Becker and those topics are covered in chapter 6 very briefly…

So, my questions is, how many questions related to calculating interest rates and bonds' values I'm expecting in BEC Exam??
Those topic are explained in details in FAR section of the CPA and I don't want to spend too much time if the probability of seeing them in BEC is low.
Any thoughts or advise in this regard ??
