Good thinking Tami…I originally had mine on 11/24 but I realized I needed more time, so I changed it to Black Friday. I usually do something fun or relaxing on the day before the test…so does eating massive amounts of turkey and stuffing count? =P

So I really suck at these types of questions, any tips?

Platinum Co. has a receivable due in 30 days for 30,000 euros. The treasurer is concerned that the value of the euro relative to the dollar will drop before the payment is received. What should Platinum do to reduce the risk?

    Buy 30,000 euros now.

Enter into an interest rate swap contract for 30 days.

Enter into a forward contract to sell 30,000 euros in 30 days.

Platinum cannot effectively reduce this risk.

Try to look at it this way. You have a receivable (Asset), so if the Euro goes down in value then your accounts receivable goes down in value as well. We could either sell a contract or issue a put. Remember, that you want to “sell” things that you believe will go down in value and you want to buy things that you believe will go up in value. The option to buy a put isn't available, but the answer to “sell” 30,000 euros in 30 days is one of the answers.

If a “put” option was one of the answers, then that would have been correct too. Just think of a put this way – you're going to put it to em'. That is you're not going to take a loss, instead you're going to put it to someone else. Hope this helps. Good luck!

i have seen a lot of people passing Bec and took little time to study. I do not know how they do that. I am struggling a lot and my exam is on Friday. Have ninja McQ. I cannot seem to handle calculations from it. I m depressed at this moment and do not know what to do anymore. Have roger for study course. Seem there are a lot of things that he doesn't cover

No, I just think Ninja has MUCH more material than what will be on the exam. Don't worry about it, I'm trending in the 60s on Ninja while doing great at WTB.

    Hi Thawdar,

I am not sure what roger covers, so I can't really tell you anything about it.

However, I am letting you know if you get the difficult testlet, you will most likely see some of the hard NINJA questions.

The good part is… a lot of the actual test exam questions is “very very very” similar to NINJA (you know what I mean.. )

I would suggest you post out some of the questions that you don't understand and perhaps someone can get you the explanation.

Personally, I think most of the math was okay. These are the same questions I got when I study cost accounting in college. All my teachers used CPA exam questions on the mid-terms and finals.

I used “Introduction to managerial Accounting” 5th edition by Peter Brewer, Ray Garrison and Eric Noreen. It covers all the cost accounting material. All I did is revisit the book and flip through all the equations. (No need to read the material).

Posting questions will be your best option.

(Will be back Thursday evening. Got to work..going to bed now)

A company produces widgets with budgeted standard direct materials of 2 pounds per widget at $5 per pound. Standard direct labor was budgeted at 0.5 hour per widget at $15 per hour. The actual usage in the current year was 25,000 pounds and 3,000 hours to produce 10,000 widgets. What was the direct labor usage variance?

    a.

    $25,000 unfavorable.

    b.

    $30,000 favorable.

    c.

    $25,000 favorable.

    d.

    $30,000 unfavorable.

    b) 30,000 favorable

    .5(10,000 widgets)= 5,000 standard hours

    5,000 standard hours – 3,000 actual hours= 2,000 hour variance

    2,000 hours x $15 standard cost= $30,000 favorable variance

    Krissyagar,

I arrived at the same answer, i.e., b) 30,000 Favorable

    3000 hours * $15 = $45,000

    5000 hours * $15 = $75,000

Since the actual hours used (3000) cost less than the standard (5000), it's $30,000 Favorable.
