Was thinking EDI resulted in reduced costs……less paper documentation, less errors and sometimes discounts for using EDI.

casa, my becker book says more expensive. i think i had a ninja question saying something along the lines that usually it.

involves some type of software that needs to transform the traditional format into EDI format.

    Becker: Costs of EDI:

-Legal Costs- modifying negotiating trading contracts with trading partners

-hardware costs- costs of servers, modems, routers

-Costs of Translation software- maintaing the translation software to translate data into EDI formats

    – costs of data transmission- has been decreasing, especially with use of inernet for EDI

    – process reengineering and employee training costs

-costs associated with security, monitoring, etc

I think the companies are sometimes required to have translation software for security purposes and that could make it expensive… costs are higher for setting up and then eventually reduces cost for operations?

yeah thats what i was thinking, they probably count design as two separate. this is good tough, keep it coming cause we are all learning collectively, hopefully it gives us the edge on exam day!
