@jr1751t Thanks! Make sense. I thinks I was not reading properly.

okay so this may seem like a stupid question or really basic- but in the above question I answered B.Increase in the price of beef. So if I read that the “supply curve has increased”- then I should infer that there has been a shift in the supply curve and look for a corresponding answer of demand versus just a movement along the supply curve where when supply increases price increases????

and they ask me why I drink...

@mckan514w I always find the best way to answer these questions is to actually draw out a supply and demand curve. If you draw the curves and then shift the supply curve to the left for the increase, you'll see that the equilibrium is at a lower price, but higher quantity. The demand curve doesn't shift at all because an increase in the supply wouldn't affect the demand in anyway except the price.

@kmay thanks- yeah I normally draw it out as well- but I guess my question / confusion comes with how do you know it is a shift versus a movement… if that makes sense…. because as supply increases price increases (which would make answer b correct)… however as noted when the supply line shifts completely and demand stays the same then equilibrium changes… just on the face of the question it says nothing about the curve it just says supply has increased…. so how do you know if the increase is due to movement or due to an actual shift in the supply curve… or do you just infer that because it says increase they are always talking about a curve shift….

@mckan514w When they say increase in supply they are talking about the whole supply curve. Always. Otherwise it would be an increase in QUANTITY SUPPLIED which indicates a movement along the existing curve.

^^ To add to @pyacpa749's comment, An increase to Quantity Supplied is a movement along the existing curve is based on PRICE only. Factors that shift the supply curve are inflation, curtailment, and the economy. Suppliers are willing to supply less if materials cost more, causing the curve to shift left, causing prices to increase since there are less finished products in the market to be purchased.
