In the short run, a severe hurricane creates an immediate strong increase in demand for roofers. Some roofers in other parts of the country are then attracted to the disaster area. Assume that in the long run the increase in demand still exceeds the increase in supply. Incorporating these facts in an analysis, the price for roofers in the short run increases, while in the long run the price will
    a. Decrease below the original price.
    b. Return to the original price.
    C. DECREASE, BUT REMAIN ABOVE THE ORIGINAL PRICE.
    d. Continue to increase.

C is correct. If the increase in demand continues to exceed the increase in supply, price will remain above the original price.

Why would the price decrease? I am lost. Please help. Thanks.

In the long run demand is going to drop from where it was right after the hurricane. The cost in the long run will still be higher then it was before the hurricane but will start decreasing as more and more roofs are repaired

Nevermind. I think I figured out why would the price decrease in the long run. More suppliers would take advantage of the demand by manufacturing more while the demand is being met or starting to calm down.

Seems to be a ton of formulas, but hearing from a few co-workers, they said BEC doesn't have much math. Its more just theory behind the calcs.

    Any thoughts?

I would say it has a lot of calculations based on MCQ's in my studying. I am currently using flashcards to commit all the formulas to short term memory for my test tomorrow

Rolling Wheels purchases bicycle components in the month prior to assembling them into bicycles. Assembly is scheduled one month prior to budgeted sales. Rolling pays 75% of component costs in the month of purchase and 25% of the costs in the following month. Component costs included in budgeted cost of sales are:
    April
    $5,000
    May
    $6,000
    June
    $7,000
    July
    $8,000
    August
    $8,000
What is Rolling's budgeted cash payments for components in May?
    a.
    $7,750
    b.
    $6,750
    c.
    $8,000
    d.
    $5,750

    can someone please explain. thanks

the answer is A.June sales 25%*7,000 + July sales 75%*8,000 = 7,750, the trick in “Rolling Wheels purchases bicycle components in the month prior to assembling them into bicycles. Assembly is scheduled one month prior to budgeted sales”, the sales of July would result from purchases made in May and paid for by 75% in May and the sales of June would result from purchases made in April and was paid for by 25% in May (Which is the second month portion of payment). Hope this helps!

I am sharing with Spartan's confusion with that Rolling Wheels Bicycle sample problem above.
    Just doesn't make sense.
    Moving on…

The variances formula is driving me nuts not because they are confusing in the sense of computation but rather keeping straight what multiplies what. So I get most are actual – standard. Ex: DM Price variance = Actual quantity purchased x(Actual – Standard Price) DM quantity usage = SP x (Actual quantity used – Standard).

    Any good way to remember?
