@aatoural I am on the same boat. I started studying this past Saturday and I have only been able to get through all of the lectures and half of the homework for chapter 1. I hear that the first two chapter in Becker are the hardest so hopefully we can just get through those two and do better after. How many hours of studying are you putting in per day? As per Becker study plan, it suggests doing two chapter per week and leaving two weeks for review before the exam. I am thinking of re-reading chapter 1 after doing all of the homework. I have read on these threads that it is better to concentrate on 1 chapter per week when doing Becker. I just started using it so I'm not sure about that.

@perezc3910. I am feeling better now that I know there is wrong with me.the homework for chapter 1 took me 4 days. All the cost section had many long computations questions and since I wanted to really take the time to think and try to solve it on my own I ended up using about 20 min in some questions. The good thing is that once you pass through the first batch of computational questions the rest is variations that get a bit harder. But is the same stuff. I am trying to do at least 3 hours per day, although my job has been slamming me with extra work and hours. I heard the same thing about the first two chapters. Chapter two is more intense than chapter one but is less conceptual if that is better for you (it is for me :)). I did a summary with only the highlithed information and I use that to read in my spare time as well to help me grasp the memorization parts faster. I really hope we do well, this is so stressing.

@aatoural I think all the stress and time it is taking is normal. When I was studying BEC a few weeks ago, I found that some of the sections took more time than I thought was normal first time through. Like you said, some questions taking 20 minutes to figure out. The good part is, the more times you go through the problems, the easier they will become and you will start solving them quickly. Just keep going through, and then do it all over again, until you are comfortable. With your test in July, you have more than enough time to get comfortable, good luck!

I thought BEC was nasty, despite it's reputation. But I hated cost accounting and it took me hours to go over everything again. Even after 9 days of review I had questions I had a lot of difficulty with. I passed though!

As far as the writing, I had my intro and conclusion sentences down. Thank you for contacting me regarding (blah, blah, blah) and if you have any questions (blah, blah, blah.). In the middle I had a couple compare, contrast ideas to write about:

    Internal Factors/External Factors
    Near/Far (e.g., domestic/foreign)
    Past/Present/Future

I used NINJA flash cards, very helpful. 1,500 MCQ, but man, like I said it took me hours to get through 20 of them sometimes. Not the becker long comps either, just finding a way to come up with a consistent strategy for answering them. I had a terrible time with some of the process and variable costing questions.

@aatoural yeah I cannot sit through all lectures for the same chapter at one time which is killing me. I have been studying three hours per day on week days and I put in about 5 on Saturday. I'm hoping to be able to keep Sundays to myself. I watch a sub section lecture, take notes, and then read it to myself. It's hard to keep up with him talking so I don't really get to process what he is saying during the lecture. It basically takes me one whole day per subsection and two days for homework. My homework score is not so different from yours and I feel so dumb afterwards. I was on the Deans list all through college while working full time and I do not remember a thing! I graduated last May and somehow everything I learned just went away. This is so overwhelming! I was hoping to be able to study during work hours or at least during my lunch but month closing is taking a toll on me and I just cannot study even when I have a few minutes to spare. So glad that I am not alone here!

I do 20 questions when I get up, 20 at lunch and 20 when I get home. Then after that I try to work on lectures/concepts/book/flash card stuff. On weekends I try to do all day, but inevitably I would say that happens 50-60% of the time. I leave about 3 months between exams and take the week off before to do nothing but MCQ's. I do skip around a lot, which I don't know if that's wise, but it's a tactic that keeps me doing at least the minimum. Sometimes I'm so tired from work I don't have the energy to calculate anything when I get home and stick to a section with just narrative type questions.

@CPA2021 Congrats on the pass. I remember asking you about flying through the Gleim test bank a few pages ago. Looks like everything paid off! How well would you say Gleim prepared your for BEC? I am taking this thing on Monday.

@ipadminihalf Thank you. I will redo all homework as many times as time allows me to get as comfortable as possible.

@perezc3910 I think the difference from college here is that we are kind of cramming an entire semester or more of lectures in 1 to 2 months. That is why it feels so overwhelming to me as well. I was thinking I have some many concepts and formulas to memorize and this is only chapters 1 and 2.

@TobeCPA81 Even though I have only gone through the chapter 1 SIMS, what I did was that i tried to tell to myself what I was thinking on writing as if it were the exam (formally) and some of them I ven typed. Then looked at the answers and compared and then read over the points I missed that they wrote as part of the memos. Hope that helps.

Question – BEC writing part – there is no spell check on exam – just to make sure?

    @capri1032

The test underlines the word in red if you misspell it.

Just started studying for BEC last night. Taking it on 6/7 and hoping to get at least 100-120 hours in. I feel this exam is going to give me the most trouble and hope I'll be able to pass on my first attempt. I have a degree in Finance, but haven't taken any economics or finance classes since my undergrad in 2004 so I'm going to have to relearn a lot of those topics. If anyone's using Roger, how would you say his lectures are for cost accounting? They were by far my least favorite classes and the ones I had the most trouble with.

    AUD: 73, 81

re2pect, I just started studying last weekend and I wanted to schedule my exam for June but I think it might not be enough time to study. I will be putting in about 20 hours per week or so. I am using becker and the first two chapters are really hard. I'm not sure if I should play it safe and schedule for July or just try for June 9th. What is your plan of attack?
