    @Papogator24 – Thanks! I sure hope so.

When studying for FAR, I made the mistake of telling people that “A lot of people consider FAR to be the hardest section because it has so much material”…and now all I keep hearing is “Well you passed the hardest one. This one should be easy!” 🙁 If only it worked that way.

In response to that, lately I have been using the analogy of the four exams being like a lion, a tiger, a grizzly bear, and a crocodile. Sure, one of them is, by very definition, the “easiest” or “hardest” to kill of the four…but I think that title is pretty subjective (not to mention purely academic) when you're standing across from one of them.

Yeah. BEC is tougher because of the vast material we have to cover across the board. Although, it has the highest passing percentages out of all 4 sections. We just have to keep at it with the studying.

Information related to the revenue and costs of a product are as follows: Total fixed cost per month: $3,600
Desired net income per month: 480
    Selling price per unit: 20
    Variable cost per unit: 15

What number of units above the break-even level must be sold to earn the desired level of net income per month?

    24
    96
    720
    816

The answer is 96. Why aren't we factoring in the fixed cost? Maybe I am misunderstanding the question.

Hey, its clear the question asks What number of units “above” the break-even level must be sold to earn the desired level of net income! This is solved by computing the difference between the level at breakeven point and the level at the net income desired 816 – 720 = 96

Or you can compute that by deviding 480/5= 96. The reason why we did not include the FC is that the 480 was produced by the CM only after the fixed costs have been covered!

My Nick name is sunshine, but the fact is I have not been in touch with it since I started this CPA exam! IT HURTS

Two weeks till test day and my trending average is decreasing day by day. I feel myself spiraling into a CPA depression every time I get a “red” answer. The runtime errors are not helping.

Stay positive Tracy. You have done very well with the other 2 sections. Keep doing the questions and find out why they are wrong. Correct those mistakes and do ask us if you need explanations. I'm taking the exam a week after you and I feel the same way. Keep at it.

Sometimes you just need a short break from studying to refresh your mind. 15-30 mins.

Hey everyone. Can someone help me understand how the COGS is calculated in the problem below? It looks like COGS is $8/unit but I have no idea where that is coming from.

    Question:

Augusta, Inc., expects manufacturing and sales of 70,000 units of product Maggie, its only product, to occur evenly over a 10-week period. Augusta pays for materials in the week following use. The balance of accounts payable for materials at the beginning of the 10-week period is $40,000. There are no beginning inventories. The following information pertains to product Maggie for the 10-week period:

    Sales price $11 per unit
    Materials $3 per unit
    Manufacturing conversion costs—Fixed $210,000
    Variable $2 per unit
    Selling and administrative costs—Fixed $45,000
    Variable $1 per unit

Actual results are as budgeted, except that 60,000 of the 70,000 units produced were sold. Using absorption costing, what is the difference between the reported income and the budgeted net income?

    A.
    $10,000

    B.
    $20,000

    C.
    $75,000

    D.
    $95,000

    Correct Answer: B) $20,000

    Explanation:

Absorption costing is a method of costing in which manufacturing fixed costs are treated as product costs and assigned to the units produced. Fixed costs follow the units through work-in-process and finished goods as an inventoriable cost and are expensed through cost of goods sold (COGS) when the units are sold.

    Unit sales 60,000 70,000

    Revenue $660,000 $770,000
    Less COGS 480,000 560,000
    ——– ——–
    Gross profit $180,000 $210,000
    Less Fixed selling/admn. 45,000 45,000
    Less Variable selling/admn. 60,000 70,000
    ——– ——–
    Net profit $ 75,000 $ 95,000

    The difference is pre-tax net income of $20,000 ($95,000 − $75,000).

91% through adaptive learning…I don't think I have it in me to make it to review stage. At this point, I've memorized a TON of questions, so my trending score of 89 is misleading. I think it's inflated by like 5 points or so.

In any case, I'm pretty content. I'm going to be doing MCQs every night just to keep my mind limber for Saturday.

    BRING IT ON!!!
