I'm feeling better about studying, so thanks guys for the advice.

I do have a new question for anyone studying BEC with Becker – I'm on Chapter 5 Module 3 and on the Elasticity of Demand and Supply. So far, it hasn't clicked with me yet and I want it to click! Anybody know of a better way to learn about elasticity of demand and supply over Becker? The study materials are pretty crappy at explaining sometimes. . .

    Also, good luck today @RB!

Okay, got 5 minutes before I head out to the bar.

There was definitely alot of IT and governance. With governance, like, xxx is an example of which principle of ERM / IC?

Unfortunately for me not as much math or ECON as I expected. Definitely covered a wide range of topics. Not much math or computationally intensive, mostly just interpreting the question. I had alot that I struggled with understanding if the question wanted the impact as of day 1 only, or if it was the effect going forward (like on ratios).

Overall it did touch most topics covered. Several of the IT terms I had only seen going through Wiley but the ones I got I didn't necessarily know the full effect, like everything about how one obscure encryption feature works and how to translate that to what the company needs to adapt to.

Alot of problems I could say hey, it's not A or C. But hell how B or D relate to it, legit 50/50 guess, maybe 25% of the problems.

In summary? In isolation I'd be questioning if I'd passed. I'm sure I did because I've felt this way before and because of everyone else's experience. Just, don't fret or stress on being unsure because I am too.

I was prepared as I could be, nothing I would have specifically tailored my study to, the IT stuff that actually came up was too obscure to even be an aspect I'd spend time memorizing.

    Time to go get drunk!

PS – bobby I'll try to cover this for you this weekend at some point, if I'm sharp enough and remember. Putting accounting out of my brain for the time being

@rb sounds like we got a very similar test. I'm still trying to gather my thoughts but the only thing I keep coming back to is how random the IT portion is. Just seems odd to have that many ambiguous questions.

@ Ana Honestly, from your posts I thought you studied together. I know your husband is an accountant too… ? If yes, at least he understands how these exams are. BTW, I remember you from NJ 18-months extension post (for ONE year!!!!). Lucky them!

@ thanks RB for sharing your experience. It looks like BEC exam is not as easy as people keep saying. For me, it is going to be the most important. Either I pass or I need to retake FAR and REG. Hope not!

I never forget when I asked my cousin about the CPA exams, years ago… probably it was 2007-2009. I was afraid of IT at that time. He told me, if you know how to play WoW, you know enough how to answer these questions. Wish I took the exams at that time!

Last year, I skipped Thanksgiving because I studied for AUD. This year my little boy asked me, “Mom, where is the turkey?” Cannot skip this year. Happy Thanksgiving to all of you!

Happy Thanksgiving! I am studying until I have to leave in a few hours and hallelujah I'm finally seeing some improvement in my scores! My exam is 2 weeks away exactly and I was getting worried I'd never nail this stuff. I still have a lot of work to do, but seeing some improvement makes me feel better.

@ren we went to different high schools and colleges, then post bachelors went to school together for accounting (just about 1.5 years). he's also an accountant and finished his tests this past May. we started the cpa process together but he finished earlier. he actually failed his first exam and I passed (Bec) but then because of the Q2 wait, I lost mine. It's crazy that by failing he actually was better off. He's also taken more exams than me, has more fails, but because of his fails and not getting stuck in Q2, he had more chances while I had to sit it out with my last test.

    @rb how about sims?

    Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

    Bobby!

Elasticity – let me see if I can try to explain it without rehashing what the text says

So basic premise, if the price of beef goes up by 10%, people will probably buy 10% less beef, give or take. That’s elasticity, percentage change in demand (or supply for supply elasticity) over percentage change in price. Any type of elasticity will always have % change in quantity on top, always, remember that, quantity on top then the bottom is just what is moving in relation to.

So the 10% / 10% is an elasticity of 1, or unit elastic.

Now, if the price of water out of our tap goes up 50%, our consumption of water will not go down by 50%, maybe our water consumption goes down by 15%, we start to conserve but we still need to shower and pee, etc. This would be a relatively inelastic, here 15%/50% (.15 / .50) = .30, this is less than 1, relatively inelastic. Water, electricity, essentials, are going to be inelastic.

Now, if the price of Coke goes up by 25%, our demand for coke will probably go down by 50-60%, because we’ll just shift to Pepsi. Let’s say 60%, = .60 / .25 = 2.4. That would be a (highly) elastic good.

Items are going to be elastic if there are substitutes, inelastic if there are not or its an essential.

Similarly we can have income elasticity which is then just % change in quantity / % change in our income, or cross elasticity, so in our coke example, when the price of coke goes up by 25% let’s say demand for pepsi goes up by 50%, that would be a cross elasticity of positive 2, because they are substitutes (+.50/+.25 = 2). If they are compliments you will have negative elasticity, compliments being computers and peripherals, vehicles and gas, playstations and playstation games, etc.

That help? I think I saw 1 MCQ on this pop up on the exam, not a heavy subject. But exams vary so who knows you could get 3.

    Can I clarify further?
