    just a random question…. I always getr confused…after practicing so many times….pls help

    Std quantity of the material per unit of output 4.5 pounds

    std price of the material $13.90/ pound

    Actual material purchased 2000 pounds

    Actual cost of material purchased $26200

    Actual material used in production 1300 pounds

    actual output 220 units

    What is the material price variance for the month?

    What is the material quantity variance for the month?

    @Qlad I solved this way…let me know the answer

    Material price variance always considers the purchased amount not the used amount;

    Std= 13.9*2000=27,800

    Actual= 26200

    Favorable variance of 1600 (27800-26200)

    Material Efficiency variance consider the used amount

    Sq*Sp= 4.5*220*13.9=13761

    Aq*sp=1300*13.9=18070

    Unfavorable variance of 4,309 (18070-13761)

    BEC 79
    FAR 86
    AUD 79
    REG 90

    @jydotcome.

    I used Becker.

    Price variance will be 26,200 vs 2,000 x 13.9

    Usage variance will be 13.9 x 1300 vs (220 x 4.5 ) x 13.9

    FAR - 84
    AUD - 94
    REG - 86
    BEC - 86

    Thanks Prince. I would pound COSO and COBIT — read and re-read those parts. I did not have much cost accounting which was extremely weird. I spent a lot of time memorizing formulas, and never had to use them.

    I feel like BEC is such a crap shoot. There are so many topics crammed into that test, it is more like a flavor of the month from the AICPA with regards to tested material.

    Did anyone feel like the testlets got harder if you think you did better? I buzzed through the first testlet, felt like I didn't really miss anything, and then got slammed on testlet 2 and 3.

    Give yourself at least 40 minutes to do the simulations if you are running out of time. That is a free 15 points if you can structure a memo and write in complete sentences.

    AUD - 99 (10/18/13)
    BEC - ?? (11/22/13)
    REG - ?? (01/10/14)
    FAR - ?? (sometime spring 2014)
