@zxiao–I think FG is either Beginning balance or Ending Balance. Are you saying that if it is Ending FG we will use CGS?

No. It depends on what the question asks. Could you post those two questions? If the question says use prior year's sales, then use sales, if says use prior year's sales cost, then use CGS.

    I Can Do This!!!!!

A few days ago I started with what seemed like a cold. Today I woke up feeling like the bottom of someone's shoe. I have take my over the counter meds and am feeling somewhat human again. Thank you God. Back to the books! No time to waste.

Um… can someone give me the CORRECT variance analysis? I know them backwards and forwards, but my Becker flashcards show Price = (AP-SP)*AQ and my Roger book says Price = AQ(SP-AP)….. same goes for the other 3 I believe.

WHICH IS IT? Are you kidding me?!

    The difference is really irrelevant.

Which is the variance going to be if you have a higher AP than SP, favorable or unfavorable? You spent more than your standard price. Just take the difference between them, consider which number was higher, and deduce your favorable or unfavorable variance from that.

@samdiego it doesn't really matter which way you put it. Think of it logically. If actual price is greater than standard price it's going to be unfavorable and vice versa.

If you want the unfavorable variance to be a negative number and favorable as a positive, use the roger formula.

Yeah, that makes sense… I guess once I am doing questions and not just reviewing the formulas, it'll make sense. I definitely understand it all, but I guess it threw me for a loop on test day seeing differences! Thanks for the clarifications 🙂
