lvr21MemberI look at it like this 12%-5% is 7% or (.07)
.07 multiplied by the beta or .6 is .042 or 4.2%
4.2% + 5%= 9.5%

CPAsweetnessMemberHi, lvr21!
Thanks!
I was taking 5 + 7 x .6
A couple weeks ago, I was in pretty bad shape with these problems. After working them a couple times over, it's making more sense. I finally understand variances! I just need to remember all those formulas. I'm still a little sketchy on the EUP, but that is getting better, too.
I so underestimated BEC!

SKCPAMemberI just finished the Planning, Control and Analysis section of Wiley. It took me a few days to get through all 114 questions, but I got a surprising 74%. I needed a little boost. 🙂 I usually get a 60% the first time I go through a homework set. Also, I got about 7 hours of sleep last night, which is a huge improvement. I'm ready for a power weekend! Good luck everybody! We can tame this BEC Beast.

stokey45ParticipantI have been working on chapter 3 in my review material and had completed about 75 questions of 114 in Capital Management. I hadn't finished the entire section yesterday so I just closed my laptop without shutting it down to save my place. Well, unfortunately, my computer did not like that and today when I started to pick up where I left off my computer decided to do an update and then restart losing my place in Becker. It did not save any of the problems I answered so far and I have to go and redo this section.
Oh well, maybe I just needed the review!

lvr21MemberWhen y'all write your written communications do you have a go to line or sentence you almost always use? or do you always use the same first line?

cpaherewegoMemberI need help with a Wiley question.
Jackson Inc. is preparing a flexible budget for 2013 and requires a breakdown of the cost of steam used in its factory into the fixed and variable elements. The following data on the cost of steam used and direct manufacturing labor hours worked are available for the last 6 months of 2012:
Month Cost of steam Direct manufacturing labor hours
July $15,850 3,000
August 13,400 2,050
September 16,370 2,900
October 19,800 3,650
November 17,600 2,670
December 18,500 2,650
Assuming that Jackson uses the high-low points method of analysis, the estimated variable cost of steam per direct manufacturing labor hour should be
$4.00
$5.42
$5.82
$6.00

cpaherewegoMemberThe answer says it is $4.00
The explanation says you take [(19,000-13000)/2] / [(3670+2050)/2].
I thought the high low method you take the high of 19800 plus the low of 13400 and divided that by 2. Where are they getting the 19000 and 13000??
