    Any advice on studying variances? Especially how to remember the method for calculating overhead variance. I'm using Becker and they do a great job, but I'm still having a hard time “visualizing” each formula in my head

    I'm not entirely sure how to ask this so stick with me on this one!

    Here is a question from Wiley….

    A company uses a standard costing system. At the end of the current year, the company provides the following overhead information:

    Actual overhead incurred

    Variable $ 90,000

    Fixed $ 62,000

    Budgeted fixed overhead $ 65,000

    Variable overhead rate (per direct labor hour) $ 8

    Standard hours allowed for actual production 12,000

    Actual labor hours used 11,000

    What amount is variable overhead efficiency variance?

    I know the answer. I use Becker's formual (ABABSA) to arrive at my answer… When it gives us the flat 90,000 var and 62,000 … will I ever use that in the ABABSA formula (if it was asking for a different variance (spending or volume)??

    {R: PASSED!! (I passed one!)}
    {B: PASSED!! (Halfway there!)}
    {F: PASSED!! (1 left!!!)}
    {A: PASSED(I am done!!)}

    Yes, the actual costs would be number 1.. I know they list it out in 1, 2,3,4.. 1 is the actual cost

    1 vs 2 is.. A vs BA.. which is the spending variance.

    2 vs 3 is BA vs BS… which is efficiency

    3 vs 4 is BS vs A … which is volume.

    I have a question about written communication. We r going to have 3 of them and one of them is going to be pretest. Does that mean only two of them will be scored and each of those two will be seven and a half points worth. And also how long should a written communication be. Because Cindy from Yeager's CPA review video always says it should be short with just three paragraphs, introductory (1-2 lines), middle (5-8) and ending (1-2) but I have seen in Beckers and other places, that response to written communications are really really long. Any suggestions?

    I went over Becker material twice and redid all the homework for multiple choices. I did the first final test yesterday and got 100, 100, and 91. I was happy until working on the second final test. It was BRUTAL! I got 65, 85, and 79.

    I'm going to do Wiley exam review multiple choices and plan to finish them in two days. Then I'm going to outline Becker material and do progress tests (at least 200 multiple choices a day).

    As far as writing communications, I plan to read those answers provided in the review materials everyday.

    Good luck to everybody!

    Hey, all.

    I am working on WTB for BEC.

    Below is an explanation to a question I was just working on

    This answer is correct. CAPM is calculated as ks (CAPM) = kRF + (kM – kRF)bi, which is the risk-free interest rate + (the market rate – risk-free interest rate) × beta. This is equal to 9.20% [(5% + (12% – 5%) × .60].

    I keep coming up with 7.2. I cannot figure out how Wiley is getting 9.2. Am I losing my mind? Yikes!

    Thanks
