Hey guys, I have a super quick question for anybody using Becker.. At variance analysis, does it make you do (Standard – Actual) or (Actual – Standard)?

The only reason I ask is because we were doing variances in my masters class and my professor was teaching us using (Actual – Standard) meaning a positive number was actually unfavorable. I told him my CPA review (Roger) did it the other way and he was in shock for some reason haha. I just want to see if Becker does it as well. I told him Becker might do it (Standard – Actual) also but I just wanted to confirm!

    BEC: 88 (8/27/13)
    FAR: 93 (12/3/13)
    REG: 92 (2/27/14)
    AUD: 95 (4/22/14)

Becker uses: Standard – Actual = Difference (It would be SAD if you forgot this!) Am I done yet?

There's a question in Becker 6 that asks about interest rate risk. Isn't interest rate risk always higher with long term notes?

A company evaluating the advantages and disadvantages of short-term and long-term financing options would note which of the following two characteristics to be true?

    d. Increased interest rate risk

    Decreased credit risk

    Explanation

Choice “d” is correct. Short-term financing options result in lower interest rates but higher interest rate risks because rates will fluctuate more dramatically for short-term issues than long-term issues. On the other hand, with long-term financing, credit risk will decrease because the company will seek refinancing less frequently and thereby have less credit risk or opportunity that the rates associated with debt will be changed unfavorably or that financing will be denied altogether.

I finally made my way through all the material. 2 was a giant pain, but BEC got much easier after that. 4 and 5 were a breeze. 6 was kind of a cluster but not too bad. I have 3 1/2 weeks left to review. Trying to read/take notes on each chapter and then go through MC for next two weeks. Right now I'm struggling with the OH Variances. Think I might just give up on them and try to master everything else in 2.
