    Hi

Can someone please tell me whether defective units are added while computing for equivalent units? In WTB i see two questions, with conflicting answers.

    Thanks!

Good luck to everyone sitting for BEC this last window! I am heading over to the FAR study group now…excited to leave BEC group (hopefully) once and for all!

    BEC: 73, 81
    AUD: 85
    FAR: 71, 77
    REG: 74, 75...finally DONE! πŸ˜€

*This is my 2nd attempt at the CPA exam. For all of you who have failed this exam many times, given up on it, or taken a break like me, remember that it is still possible to finish what you started...failure is the opportunity to begin again more intelligently πŸ™‚

@pia ach – Normal defective units are included in inventory (Equivalent units), whereas, abnormal defective units are expensed as period costs. I would treat defective units the same way you would treat spoilage.

Hi, has anyone done question PLAN-0091 in WTB?

    The question is:

“Relevant information for material A follows:

    Quantity purchased 6,500

    Standard Quantity Allowed 6,000

    Actual price $3.80

    Standard price $4.00

What is the direct material price variance?”

    I did the AQ(SP-AP) equation, so 6,500(3.80-4.00) = ($1,300)

Since the total is negative (actual cost more than standard), it should be an unfavorable variance…right?

I got this question wrong because WTB says:

“In this case, the material price variance is equal to $1,300 favorable [($3.80 – $4.00) Γ— 6500 lbs]”

I'm so confused…urgh. I thought negative meant unfavorable.

    B - 33, 71, 79!
    A - 32, 61, 70, 83!
    R - 33, 58, 73, 69, 81!
    F - 47, 78! πŸ™‚
After 3 long years, I'm finally DONE!
I could not have done it without NINJA MCQs.
