I want to ask everyone how you study for each exam. I used to listen to each lecture, write tremendous notes (too much, almost rewriting the chapter), then do the multiple choice questions for that chapter then do the next chapter. I would do the simulations at the end of my studies along with the final exam in my review material. This would take approximately 2 months and then I would test. Unfortunately, I usually did not pass on the first attempt. But, when I would go thru the review material for the second time I retained much more information and usually passed. When I took Auditing I failed on my first two attempts and then followed the Ninja Plan of listening to the lectures first, rewriting the Ninja notes, and then doing the MCQs. By my third attempt I was very familiar with the material and I passed with an “80.”
Recently I re-took REG and on my first attempt in July I did not even finish the exam so needless to say I did not pass. In October I followed the Ninja plan and was again very familiar with the information because I recently finished studying. I do not have my score yet but I am hoping I passed (awaiting release).
I am now studying for BEC and am following the Ninja plan of listening to all of the lectures first, rewriting the Ninja Notes, and then doing the MCQs. My point is I seem to be more successful when I go thru the review material 2x or at least do the MCQs. 2x. I am testing at the beginning of Dec. and want to pass on my first attempt. I do not think I will have time to go thru all of the MCQs 2x.
What has worked best for you? What is your plan?
Thanks in advance.

QladMember@stokey…i know u didn't ask me but thought i wud just chime in….hoping someone will suggest me a better way….for FAR i did exactly ur way and i passed the second time…i think i get the points while doing second time too and also knew i need to focus on smaller topics …
.for AUD i was not able to complete my MCQ….and lagged in some basic concepts i think….
in REG i was with u and what i did was i did all the MCQ but this time i started doing progress tests everyday just for 24 questions in 40 mins …starting the day i finished ch2…. i kept going till end and then did the MCQ 2X only for the topics that i was weak in…. i did the SIMs along with the chapters that i completed …and 2X at the very end….but still i am not confident about REG bcoz the SIMS were way to tough….
For BEC …i feel the questions are too long in ch 2 and 3…which has slowed me down and also i am more concerned about the conceptual questions in ch 2 and 3 and don't know how to master those…please give some suggestions….i haven't done any of the sims here yet but as i said somehow i have slowed down…don't know why…still trying very hard to gather my enthusiasm to work these problems….starting ch 4 today…so let's see.

How much time are you studying everyday? It seems like you are able to dedicate a lot of time because you are taking BEC on 11/10 and retaking AUD on 11/30. WOW! You have a full load. I work full time and study an hour in the morning before I get ready and 2 hours at night at the library. I take Thursday night off because I have most Friday's off (I know this does not seem like full time but they are reimbursing me of overtime hours worked during deadlines). On Friday, Saturday, and Sunday I study about 5 hours give or take. I am in my computer room much longer than that but I deduct the time I take to change laundry loads or fold clothes.
I know you probably heard me ask this same question while studying for REG but I like to hear how others study. I almost feel there should be an easier way but haven't found it yet. You know, I will probably figure it out when I am all done. Ha Ha

stokey45ParticipantI am working on B1 MCQs in the Becker Review Material. I feel that when talking about Enterprise Risk Management and the COSO framework for Internal Controls that a lot of the information overlaps.. Having said that, when I see a question I feel more than one answer could apply. I need to wrap my head around what the specific differences are so that I can better answer the questions.
Anyone else felt the same way?

mmorfParticipantI gave up on the Becker videos. I'm reading and writing notes and then doing MCQs. If there are things that are unclear in the book I then view the accompanying page lecture to see if I've missed anything important that was just given verbally.
I also have Gleim and Wiley, using those to supplement if I can't comprehend the way Becker does it. I am still behind schedule, was hoping to take two days for each chapter, with a third day for comprehensive review. Then at the halfway point to go back and review 1-3. I have 10 more days to finish the whole book, leaving me another 2 weeks to go through everything again.
As I take notes I'm also writing the important formulas on note cards, I have all those in a small binder and try to review all the formula when I have spare moments here and there.
This is my first test so I have no idea how prepared I will be using this process. I understand a lot of the underlying concepts but right now it's taking me awhile to think things through. I guess I just need to review and do problems until they're second nature. I think only time and practice can help with that.

stokey45ParticipantI understand you wanting for this to be behind you. I am with you on that. I work and wish I did not need to so that I could focus on the exam more, but we all want what we do not have. You are right BEC is not easy! I have not found that any of the CPA exam were easy. But, they tell us it will all be worth it in the end.
We have to try to keep our eye on the goal of passing these exams. Sometimes I can get very discouraged but then I read a post from another candidate and I am inspired to keep going. My advice to you is to set realistic goals. If you are not ready for the BEC exam then reschedule and keep studying. Someday when all of this is behind us we will be so happy that we struggled through.
Good luck to you!
