Qlad, only halfway through chapter 1 and not sure if I can help, but I'll take a stab at it. You don't want to use the direct labor costs, the DRIVER here is the hours. You use the hours and the budgeted OH items to figure out total OH.

    Budgeted fixed OH = 25,000 cost / 20,000 hours x 1500 actual hours = 1875

    Budgeted variable OH = 50,000 cost / 20,000 budgeted hours x 1500 actual hours = 3750

    = 5625

    AUD - 94
    REG - 86
    BEC - 86

The problem looks to be addressing a traditional cost system with one driver (hours). The fact that they give you direct labor costs, direct materials and machine hours are distractions.

To figure out the actual oh to be applied you take two formulas

Calculated overhead rate :budgeted OH (75,000) / estimated driver (hours) 20,000

ACTUAL to be applied = Step 1 x actual hours .

    FAR - 84
    AUD - 94
    REG - 86
    BEC - 86

@journhi I think that's awesome. I am using NINJA method this time around too. I tried to implement it last time 1/2 way through my studying but I simply ran out of time. I know better now though. Staying positive that this WILL work for us! πŸ™‚

    BEC: 73, 81
    AUD: 85
    FAR: 71, 77
    REG: 74, 75...finally DONE! πŸ˜€

*This is my 2nd attempt at the CPA exam. For all of you who have failed this exam many times, given up on it, or taken a break like me, remember that it is still possible to finish what you started...failure is the opportunity to begin again more intelligently πŸ™‚
