    Hi guys! I just wanted to share that although I am still very behind on my study schedule and things have not gone as planned for this BEC rematch, I saw a little glimmer of hope last night as I completed the IT section. Those were the questions that burned me in July. It's not perfect, but first go at them I ended up with an average of 75%. Hopefully when I review closer to test day I can average a little higher. Let's keep going!

    BEC: 73, 81
    AUD: 85
    FAR: 71, 77
    REG: 74, 75...finally DONE! πŸ˜€

    *This is my 2nd attempt at the CPA exam. For all of you who have failed this exam many times, given up on it, or taken a break like me, remember that it is still possible to finish what you started...failure is the opportunity to begin again more intelligently πŸ™‚

    @Qlad

    My first time through I do not worry about my scores(even if they are in the 40-50%), however I do write up a study sheet on the concepts behind the questions that I missed and study those often. This way the next time I go back through some questions I should be scoring in the 85-90%.

    REG - Aug 30,13 Pass
    BEC - Oct 26,13 Pass
    FAR - Dec 4,13 Pass

    Hello, I hope everyone is enjoying their BEC studies!! I have a specific question on a homework problem from Becker (B2 #51):

    Virgil Corp. uses a standard cost system. In May, Virgil purchased and used 17,500 pounds of materials at a cost of $70,000. The materials usage variance was $2,500 unfavorable and the standard materials allowed for May production was 17,000 pounds. What was the materials' price variance for May?

    The correct answer is $17,500 favorable.

    I understand the Direct Material variances, but I do not understand Becker's explanation to the solution in which they “explain” how they got a standard rate of $5. Perhaps I don't understand the whole concept behind stand rates? Can someone please help me understand this problem? Thank you in advance πŸ™‚
