AnonymousInactiveI am having the same problem switching from audit to BEC. I am finding BEC material very difficult and the questions are taking me forever to complete. I have the test set for Feb 22nd and I feel that there is no way I will be ready by then. I also started a new job and that stress is not helping, but thats life I guess and I have to push through to succeed. Good luck to all

MrKolbMemberHey Everyone,
I have a question about BEC:
I have the 2014 Becker books from a friend, but not the video lectures. I'm interning at a firm and hoping to get the full Becker materials in April (along with an offer!), but want to get at least one section done before then.
Can I pass BEC with just the book alone? I plan on reading it entirely (4-5 weeks studying) and sitting at the end of February before blackout March. Figured BEC would be the most feasible of the 4, provided I only have the book.

jolenebolosMemberSo I am new to the NINJA forum world. My BEC exam is scheduled for tomorrow morning but I called the Prometric Center and they said they will be closed due to weather conditions. I tried calling the number they gave me to reschedule but no answer! As if I'm not stressed out enough!! Has anyone ever had to reschedule? How long does this process take??

joch0803Member@MrKolb I think it all depends on your strengths. If you are great calculations and areas related to cost accounting and financial management/instruments then you can probably get away without the videos.
If you are more of a visual learner you may want to wait. Audit is more of a conceptual area, not many calculations so you might be better off there.
I would suggest investing in the Ninja Blitz for videos or the Ninja audio. I think Jeff did a good job with them both.
@jolenebolos KEEP CALM its going to be ok!!! Rescheduling is pretty easy and quick…I know there is another tread on this area that MINTS discussed rescheduling after a site closure. I think it Site Closure of something in the title.

funtiksParticipantKuchman Kookies has invested $100,000 in new ovens to improve their baking and production process. The ovens have
a useful life of 5 years with no salvage value. The tax rate is 20%. The after-tax cash flows from the investment are
expected to be as follows:
Year 1 35,000
Year 2 38,000
Year 3 25,000
Year 4 20,000
Year 5 10,000
If the company uses an 8% hurdle rate for its investments, what is the payback period in years for the ovens?
a. 4.0
b. 3.1
c. 2.3
d. 4.7
Choice “b” is correct.
why are we not accounting for depreciation tax shield in this problem?
FAR - 76*, 73, 85
BEC - 69, 72, 78*, 80
AUD - 72, 71, 90
REG - 71, 74, 85AFTER 3 YEARS I'M DONE!!!

cpameMemberThe problem does say “after-tax cash flows” so the tax shield is already built in. No need to recalculate.

jaycat97MemberHey all
Just wondering if anyone has come across a similar situation. I am using the Wiley test bank for BEC and I came across a question that is identical but the answers are different. The question is as follows:
Zig Corp. provides the following information:
Pretax operating profit = $300,000,000
Tax Rate = 40%
Capital used to generate profits 50% debt 50% equity = $1,200,000,000
Cost of equity = 15%
Cost of debt = 5%
What represents Zig's year-end economic value added?
Wiley test bank says that it's $60,000,000 (which is what I came up with)
ExamMatrix says that it's $180,000,000 and that the tax rate is not pertinent information in this problem.
Am I missing something? I am under the impression that the calculation for EVA is operating income after taxes – (net assets x WAAC)
I appreciate the feedback…
