How is everybody studying for BEC? I started reading the chapters, taking notes then doing MCQ's. The taking notes aspect is taking forever and I feel like I am losing time with my exam scheduled in mid Feb. Any other methods of studying you guys are trying??

@mscdngal, my ritual for all sections has been to watch the lecture then read/take notes at the same time, then do the MCQs. To me, it seems the only way for me to know I understand the information is if I take good notes that condenses all the important information and formulas onto a few pages. If I skip this step or become lazy in writing things in my own words, I was only cheating myself because I wouldn't get as much out of the MCQs than if I were to study beforehand. Eventually I had to go through and study the material anyway, so I completely recommend the taking your own notes thing.

Mostly, I had to do it because just reading wasn't enough to keep my attention and writing notes helped me stay on task. If you find it a waste of time though, then stop doing it. You have to find what works for you.

@Bird, you are right. I have been taking notes at the same time I am reading through the chapters to cut down on time. I retain the material better when I do write my own condensed notes. Just thought there would be a “magical” way to cut down on all this material lol. Thanks for your insight. Back to note-taking I go! 🙂

@bird About how many weeks before the exam are you done taking notes and starting the MCQs? I want to try the ‘notes first/questions last' method, but I'm always afraid I won't have enough time to complete the questions. At the rate I'm going, I'll only have 2 1/2 weeks before my exam after I'm done note taking to do MCQs. Is that enough time, or should focus only on note taking on important topics?

    Passed all sections.

Started officially studying today and plan to take the exam on Feb 28th. Hopefully I can get a seat for that date because I haven't even applied for a NTS yet. I've been so tired with the new baby, but if I don't start studying this week, I have to wait til April to take the exam and fit it studying when I go back to work. I wish I would've gotten this out the way last quarter.
