    Guess I’ll kick it off!

Scheduled to take BEC on 4/19. It’s my last test so I’m putting as much study time in as I can. If I pass I get promoted, if I don’t pass I don’t get promoted, so the pressure is on!!

Good luck to everyone taking BEC this quarter!

So I am back after a 74… which I was hoping would be my final test but I guess not. Already half way through B2 and am looking forward to taking this exam. I am really suprised I failed so I look forward to seeing on the score report where I am weak. I plan on taking the exam 4/15 which will give me plenty of time to go through everything twice and do lots of practice tests. I also bought the becker final review this time so I am going to do that to go along with my NINJA notes.

Good Luck everyone this window hopefully we can all get a passing score and either be done altogether or move on to your next exams.

B-2 is just pure pain. I'm on multiple choice question 456 of 5,000 (or at least it seems that way). I want to stab my eyes out.

Can't seem to get Factory OH – Over/Under Applied…Anyone have any helpful ways to understand how to allocate from Beg Bal to COGS?

    (COGS) – T-Account

    _________________________________

    Dr. ……………………I Cr.

    Beg. COGS…………I

    Underapplied OH ….I Overapplied OH

    I

    End. COGS

    ===============

    NOTE: COGS vs OH Variance

“Beg. COGS” trickles down from inventory flows starting from Raw or Direct Materials Inventory through Work in Process Inventory (FYI WIP is truly the meat of Inventory costing and flow), through Finished Goods Inventory, and ultimately to COGS Account

“Under/Overapplied OH” is derived from year end comparisons of Actual OH vs. Applied OH and the resulting variance is closed to COGS at year end, which simultaneously closes out both OH accounts.

It is imperative, in my opinion, to understand the inventory accounts and their flows to truly capture this concept and make it second nature. It took me about a day to do this and actually grasp via T-Accounts, journal entries, and schedules based on T-Accounts. I wish there was a way to embed images to show the whole Inventory flow better.

    BACK TO QUESTION @ HAND:

Favorable = Actual OH < Applied OH = Overapplied OH ; therefore, Actual OH incurred was less than Budgeted/Standard/Applied OH, which means that Actual COGS were much less and must be reduced by a credit to COGS

Unfavorable = Actual OH > Applied OH = Underapplied OH ; therefore Actual OH incurred was greater than Budgeted/Standard/Applied OH, which means that Actual COGS were much more and must be increased by a debit to COGS

*The way I remembered Under/Overapplied OH is via Variances… (F) is GOOD vs. U is BAD

    Actual – Standard = Actual + -Standard = Actual + (Standard) = A + (S)

    If A < (S) = (S) prevails = Favorable = (F) = Overapplied = Credit Entry = GOOD b/c you spent/used less

    In short, (Neg. – Variance) = (-) = (F) = O = Cr.

    If A > (S) = A prevails = Unfavorable = U = Underapplied = Debit Entry = BAD b/c you spent/used more

    In short, Pos. + Variance = + = U = U = Dr.

Wow, my BEC exam is 3 weeks from today! I don't feel like I've gotten anywhere so far. Hopefully that changes in the next 3 weeks, because I feel like I'm on cruise control right now going into hopefully my last exam which is not good at all. Time to make major progress this weekend.

Who is in for a power weekend!? Happy Friday!

How is everyone coming along in their studies? Especially for those who are taking the exam in the first week of April.

    Hi guys,

Does the BEC exam test on interpreting the graph ie for break even points?

    Hey y'all,

I've taken REG twice and did not pass both times. Rather than look at the same material again and go crazy, I decided to switch things up a bit and go after BEC in April and then take REG again in May. Is this a good idea?

BEC material is much easier to retain than REG and I need that confidence of passing one exam. Plus, I feel that taking a break from REG for about a month or so will be good and may help me see the material better.

Does Peter Olinto teach every BEC lecture? Over 4 hours for B-3. I just keep fast forwarding and copying down what he wrote down on that page.

^The later chapters get a little more complicated. Nothing you haven't seen in undergrad studies though.
