    Guess I’ll kick it off!

Scheduled to take BEC on 4/19. It’s my last test so I’m putting as much study time in as I can. If I pass I get promoted, if I don’t pass I don’t get promoted, so the pressure is on!!

Good luck to everyone taking BEC this quarter!

ORcpaHOPEFUL. I feel like your doing more than enough or I'm not doing nearly enough. I started studying on the 6th and am taking my exam on the 30th. Just finished going through all of Becker, lectures and hw, for my 2nd time through today (Went from mostly scoring in the 70s the first time to the 90s this time through, but seeing these Qs for the 2nd time obviously makes it easier). Still feel like I'm not retaining much, but hopefully actually reading through the book this week and doing progress tests brings everything together. The amount of work some of you guys put into studying makes me nervous!!

Bcjasper, I already know you're going to own this exam! You've been powering through the Becker material and more! I may take a day sometime later this week to go through the WTB trial since you said there was stuff in there that Becker didn't cover. I just feel like I should actually start to memorize some of the concepts/formulas/information Becker provides first. I'm with you on the WC, I haven't done a single one on my own yet (just read through the sim solutions while going through the Becker Chpts lol). Good luck on Wednesday and to everyone else taking it this week!

WhenISay: Thanks for the encouragement! I would definitely recommend hitting the WTB like 2 days before your exam. I signed up for the free trial on Sunday morning and used it all day Sunday and Monday, but all good things must come to an end. I signed in this morning and no such luck, account expired! I have my last college final forever today, so I'm planning on cramming for that puppy and hitting my marked questions and notes after it… than its all downhill from there!

See you on the other side BEC!

@WhenISay – I'm doing more than enough…. says the guy (or girl) that got an 87 on FAR and 91 on REG! haha clearly what you are doing is working 🙂 I can't believe that you have gone through the tests so quickly! I am quite jealous! You must retain the info really easily! I am study full-time and feel like it takes me longer to retain the info. I think it could be because I have been out of college for 3 years so I am STILL struggling to get back into study mode.

Hoping for a pass on the first time with BEC… it would be really great to pass at least one of the sections first try! I really truly hate re-studying for a section! I do understand it and retain it much more the second time around but it's still a pain in the behind! Good luck to everyone taking their test in the next ten days! I have my on Friday then it's off to Mexico for a week! wahoo!

    FAR: PASSED!! 64, 68, 79 on 2/27/13!
    AUD: PASSED!! 73, 93 on 4/5/13!!!
BEC: PASSED!! 75 (phew) on 5/24/13!
REG: PASSED!!! 77 on 8/7/13 I AM DONE!!!!!

    Experience: got it!
Ethics Exam: PASSED on first try (what a waste of money)

the guy* haha. But I'm studying full time as well and graduated in December, so I'm sure that helps. Cost accounting was one of my first acct classes and over 2 years ago, so no recall with this BEC material (only easy part is the econ chpt). And my FAR score must have been pulled out of a hat, I felt terriblee walking out of the testing center lol. With me its just repetition I guess, as much as I can fit in before the exam. Have fun in Mexico! I have a trip planned to miami mid-june, hopefully when all 4parts of these exams are behind me!!

WhenISay: I can attest to your feelings of cost accounting. I took it exactly one year ago but my prof was not the best. Thankfully I pick up on things fairly quickly. I envy both of your trips after the exam! I am going to San Fransisco in June but its for work so its likely not to be much of a “vacation” but at this point I'll take anything but South Dakota.

Quick study ? on CPA Excel. In figuring WACC, company Y has debt-to-equity ratio of .6. If effective int rate of debt is 8% and tax rate is 30% while cost of Equity is 10% then (.6*(.08*.7) + (.4*.1) right or wrong? Im confused

That would be my first thought too, but thinking about it a bit more (which may be completely wrong), Debt-to-Equity obviously means Debt/Equity=.6. Well 6/10=.6 (6-part Debt, 10-part Equity, which is a total of 16).

    So therefore Debt = (6/16)(1-.3)(8%) =2.1%

    Equity = (10/16)(10%) = 6.25%

    WACC = 7.35%

    May be completely wrong though

    FAR: 87 - 2/19/13
    REG: 91 - 4/2/13
    AUD: 99 - 5/2/13
    BEC: 87 - 5/30/13

    I got 7.36%

If Debt to Equity (ratio of debt to equity financing) is .6 than your WACC=

    Debt:

    .08 x .70 x .6= .0336 or 3.36%

    Equity:

    .10 x .40= .04 or 4%

    I think your right?

I got what BCJasper got. WhenIsay, when they say (no pun) the ratio is .6 (debt to equity), it means the ratio is 60% debt/40% equity; not 6 part/10 part. If you were to do it that way, your answer would be 8.36%.

Biggest thing to remember in WACC is that debt has a tax advantage while equity does not.

    F - 85 (11/2012)
    R - 87 (1/2013)
    A - 92 (2/2013)
    B - 90 (4/2013)

    DONE!

Right. I just looked it up on a random wikianswer… (not the most reliable source) but they did the same procedure. It only makes sense to do it that way.

Calling anyone who is using the Wiley online test bank!!!!

I've been working on some online practice exams (72 MCQs and 3 WC per practice test with answers given immediately after each question) and every time I type the word “than” it gives me a little red squiggly line like it is spelled wrong?! WTH Wiley?! I know for a FACT the times I have used the word I am using it properly (aka it should NOT be “then” instead of “than”)- it's like it just hates the word!!!!!!

Anyone else have this problem or something like this happen? Since the real exam is computer graded I obviously don't want to use a word the computer thinks is wrong and lose points for something dumb like that. And the only reason I am practicing the WC problems is to make sure I understand the concepts… it's really just an extra bit of studying for me to make sure actually have this stuff memorized! I'm not doing a full blown answer like I would on the test 🙂

    FAR: PASSED!! 64, 68, 79 on 2/27/13!

I'm fairly certain that than and then are two words in the English dictionary and if that was the border line of you scoring a 74 or 75 you'd probably be alright 🙂

My exam is tomorrow… its do or die, folks. I'm going to review some notes tomorrow before my test at 2:30 (I hate afternoon tests) and the rest is history. I saw a post from a dude who said that BEC was a lot of audit. This could be good because I love Audit but also that was my first test… so that material is buried deep.
