jeffKeymasterGuess I’ll kick it off!
Scheduled to take BEC on 4/19. It’s my last test so I’m putting as much study time in as I can. If I pass I get promoted, if I don’t pass I don’t get promoted, so the pressure is on!!
Good luck to everyone taking BEC this quarter!

jeangarciarosa2MemberHi Ninjas, I have the doubt about when use variable selling expenses. I use only for the calculations of the Contribution margin. But is a period cost… 80/. For example is I calculated the product cost under direct costing,I not use variable selling cost. But, when I calculated the CM, I use the variable selling cost???
For example if the cost are:
$20 price
$2 DM
$2DL
$2 VMOH
$2 FMOH
$1 VSelling cost.
$1 Fseling administrative.
Ok the product cost is $6 in variable costing
In absorption cost the product cost is $8
The contribution margin is $13( the product cost-plus VSElling cost $6+$1)
Gross profit is $12.
Please I Need yours Avice's Ninjas!!!!!

AnonymousInactiveGobias- The cost accounting problems are very time consuming at first but trust me, they will be much easier once you go through your second time. Just remember the basics and keep on plugging through them. The second half of BEC has barely any long, drawn-out calculations. You got this!

AnonymousInactiveIf anyone is looking to supplement their studies with something that is basically free.. start reading the WSJ. Over the past week I think I have seen about 12 articles that directly correlate to exactly what we are studying for BEC. I find that by reading these articles I am able to relate it to the topics being covered. I know this sounds really dumb, and most probably don't have time but throughout college my Law professor has always made us read WSJ articles every week because he says empirical research suggests that those who read the newspaper's GPA's tend to be higher, maybe the same could be true for tests scores! Happy Studying!

whatamidoingMember@bcjasper – I used Becker self-study. I thought it prepared me well for the exam (like the other exams) but I thought this exam was pretty difficult. A lot of the questions were tricky, long, and pretty confusing. I left not knowing at all how I did. I wouldn't be surprised at all by the score I see unless it was either really low or really high.
The WCs were fine – I've been out of college for 7 years so I have the art of professional writing down pretty well I think so I wasn't worried about those. As long as you can write professionally and can BS your way through a topic, you'll be fine on those.
Also, +1 to your tip on reading the WSJ. I've been reading that everyday for years now and it really helps get a solid picture of some topics covered on the BEC exam.

AnonymousInactivewhatamidoing,
How was the MCQ breakdown of theory vs. computational? Any areas that we should devote extra time towards?

WhenISayMemberQuestion for you guys from Becker: B2- 68/132 / CPA2013-04022
Jordan Auto has developed the following production plan.
Month Units
January 10,000
February 8,000
March 9,000
April 12,000
Each unit contains three pounds of raw material. The desired raw material ending inventory each month is 120 percent of the next month's production, plus 500 pounds. (The beginning inventory meets this requirement.) Jordan has developed the following direct labor standards for production of these units.
Department 1 Department 2
Hours per unit 2.0 0.5
Hourly rate $6.75 $12.00
Jordan Auto's total budgeted direct labor dollars for February usage should be:
a. $156,000
b. $210,600
c. $175,500
d. $165,750
Explanation
Choice “a” is correct. $156,000 budgeted direct labor dollars for February, calculated as follows:
8,000 units × 2.0 hrs × $6.75 = $ 108,000
8,000 units × 0.5 hrs × $12.00 = 48,000
Total budgeted direct labor dollars for February $ 156,000
What I don't understand is why you don't calculate what they are required to produce first and then use the information about the labor hours and rates?
What I did was:
Beg Inv: 8000*1.2 + 500 = 10,100
End Inv: 9000*1.2 + 500 = 11,300
Production = 8,000 +11,300 – 10,100 = 9,200
9,200 units × 2.0 hrs × $6.75 = $ 124,200
9,200 units × 0.5 hrs × $12.00 = 55,200
Total: 179,400 – which obviously isn't an option
FAR: 87 - 2/19/13
REG: 91 - 4/2/13
AUD: 99 - 5/2/13
BEC: 87 - 5/30/13May 17, 2013 at 11:39 am #416600
AnonymousInactiveYour making it to hard my friend. It says in the question “The monthly production budget” so you just use the figures they give you to figure out the DL hours. Your thought process is good though, because had they given you the budgeted sales you would need to back into it via the BI and EI information.

AnonymousInactiveQuestion about WC: So I've seen people say that as long as you have good writing style, intro, body, conclusion and use “key words”- What are they referring to with the “key words.” I don't remember Becker explaining anything about key words in their writing tutorial nor do they have anything in the material? Thanks in advance for the assistance!
