jeffKeymasterGuess I’ll kick it off!
Scheduled to take BEC on 4/19. It’s my last test so I’m putting as much study time in as I can. If I pass I get promoted, if I don’t pass I don’t get promoted, so the pressure is on!!
Good luck to everyone taking BEC this quarter!

WhenISayMemberbsjasper, you must be flying through this material considering you took your last exam on 5/3. I started studying on 5/6 and am just starting my 2nd round of going through the material today. I'm still feeling crammed about taking the exam 5/30 and have full-time to study :/. Good for you though and good luck!
FAR: 87 - 2/19/13
REG: 91 - 4/2/13
AUD: 99 - 5/2/13
BEC: 87 - 5/30/13May 15, 2013 at 2:40 pm #416573
AnonymousInactiveI took BEC on 5/13 (see my post on the BEC Experience thread). I really feel good about it. But the last time I felt great leaving an exam was my last attempt at FAR…and you can see how THAT turned out : /
I'm still determined to feel optimistic about BEC. I just have to. I must!
Good luck to all of you studying for BEC…no offense, but I hope I never have to post on this thread again. 🙂

AnonymousInactiveThis one is bothering me:
The Bread Company is planning to purchase a new machine which it will depreciate on a straight-line basis over a 10-year period. A full year's depreciation will be taken in the year of acquisition. The machine is expected to produce cash flow from operations, net of income taxes of $3,000 in each of the 10 years. The accounting(Book Value) rate of return is expected to be 10% on the initial increase in required investment. The cost of the new machine will be?

gobiasMemberThe steps that a company, using a traditional cost system, would take to implement activity-based costing include:
I.Evaluation of the existing system to assess how well the system supports the objective of an activity-based cost system.
II.Identification of the activities for which cost information is needed with differentiation between value adding and non-value adding activities.
a.Only I.
b.Both I and II.
c.Only II.
d.Neither I nor II.
Choice “b” is correct. Both steps are essential to implementing activity-based costing
Why would you evaluate how a traditional system supports an ABC system? That makes absolutely no sense to me at all.

AnonymousInactiveWhat they are asking is basically will your traditional cost system (i.e. your acct system/mfg process) support Activity Based Costing. So in other words, is what your doing going to be congruent with ABC (multiple cost drivers, accurate allocation base, etc.) The objective they are referring to is allocation of overhead and costs based on your multiple cost drivers, you seem bright so I probably need not say more. That is how I read the question when I came across it.
I am taking the first of 2 Final Exams today. As always, not going to take too much stock in the results but its good to have some extra practice on MCQ's. Did some of the CPAreviewforfree questions… They were pretty difficult (just like all the other sections) but seemed to be understandable. Here's to another day of studying!

gobiasMemberOkay that makes sense. The wording of the first option confused me.
Thank you.

so1913ParticipantHahaha @CPA4birthdaypresent I hope you never hope to post here again as well!!! Good luck!
I take mine in 2 days and hope the same for myself.
Plans for the next two days: I got hold of WTB so working through the MCQ's, I think its good for some additional practice and reinforcement. Tomorrow I will also review some Writing examples to get an idea of what to expect.

AnonymousInactive@VGPA12 I am envious that you have off from now until May 31 to prepare for this exam. I am struggling with the same thing with Becker watching the video seems to take up too much time. Because when I try to read through the materials it seems like I am missing something. But when I watch the videos I feel I am wasting time. I still looking for the best way to get the whole 360 without feeling like I am wasting time.

AnonymousInactiveTo respond to both of your questions, my advice would to definitely watch the lectures. I have always reread the book (with the exception of FAR) after watching the lectures and found that to be helpful, but without first watching the lectures there are various items not covered. As I have stated in other feeds, I don't use the Ninja approach (not because I oppose it!) I just find that I learn better by watching the lectures and working the MCQ's afterwards. This time around I found myself rereading each chapter and doing the MCQ's for a second time. This seems to really point out the spots that I need to spend extra time on and solidify concepts.
I am extremely disappointed in the Final Exam for BEC. I am wondering if Becker changed their Final Exam structure because this one was not difficult at all compared to the other section final exams, and many of the questions were the same as the ones from the actual homework. Overall my results were:
Testlet1: 95
Testlet2: 90
Testlet3: 95
Sims 100 (they give you 100 simply for completion…)

sieverdMemberI cannot believe Becker wants you to write so many essays after each section. Anyone else feel this is a waste of time? I am simply formulating an outline of what I would write and then reading what Becker has for an answer.

AnonymousInactiveI am taking my exam next week, and I did my first 3 practice Sims today. To be honest, from what most have said, its more about just writing well as opposed to memorizing the content. I plan on reading through some Sims responses and just getting an idea of what they are looking for in an introduction and conclusion. I wouldn't waste your time going through each one, if your strapped for time…

whatamidoingMemberDon't waste your time with the WCs in the Becker homework, especially if you can write professionally. I didn't do any.

ROACHMember@frecklescpa, can you post the question. I have a decent grasp on economics.
I have the 2011 version of Wiley… question 57 is on disposable income.
