    Guess I’ll kick it off!

Scheduled to take BEC on 4/19. It’s my last test so I’m putting as much study time in as I can. If I pass I get promoted, if I don’t pass I don’t get promoted, so the pressure is on!!

Good luck to everyone taking BEC this quarter!

I had a love hate relationship with B6. Some of the topics were interesting but others were a bore. I don't know why but I have a conceptual block on Foreign Currency related transactions. I also love how in depth they go about hedging and derivatives… I mean common, I'm no financial analyst!

On the flip side… I am through B4 (IT) and I actually find it very interesting. I have not reached the appendix yet, and hear that is where the nitty gritty starts setting in. I will finish this one up today and start reviewing. What's every ones plan of attack for review? I thought about looking over B1-B3 and than doing all the MCQ's for those, than taking each section separately since they all are very random after B3.

The fact that I just finished my last lecture in Becker hopefully forever is amazing… almost as amazing as the fact that I went to my last college class yesterday.

I think it's great that you're possibly done and thanks for tackling IT before me. Now I may approach it with a better outlook and possibly learn something. I am finishing up B6 today and if I feel up to it I will do the IT section. If not, I'll just do it tomorrow. I definitely have to listen to B1 again but for all the others I think just practising the MCQ's should be good enough. I haven't done the Wiley MCQs yet so I will just use them for a fresh set after I re-do those that I got wrong in Becker. Good luck.

That's a good plan on B1. I definitely didn't do as well on that as I'd like to have, but I reread the notes. IT isn't bad at all (lecture wise) looking at the appendix its a lot of really techy stuff but I am only going to read through it once and hit the passmaster.

@so1913 I agree that the appendix sucks! hahah.. I dont get why they dont spend time on the lecture with that material. My exam is next Thursday and I pray that I get a 75. I am re-reading all the chapters and trying to fit all the formulas in my brain. I need to be done with these exams so I can enjoy my summer vacation before I start my FT position. Also It will be nice to get a bonus for passing all 4! It will be my celebration mula!

Okay. I just finished the Appendix. It definatly went south… wayyyyy south. I mean its interesting stuff don't get me wrong, but its basically going in one ear and out the other. I feel like it is important stuff but your right, they don't spend any time on it in the lecture! Forseeablecpa: are you using Becker? I am now going to attempt the MCQ's. I also would like to get this exam done because I start my FT position June 3rd… and the first week I have to fly out to San Fransisco so I know its going to be balls to the wall and no study time. SO passing is my only option 😀

@bcjasper09 Im using Becker. We spend so much money on this and yet they dont spend the time to go over the lecture. They can even make it an optional lecture. Dang June 3 is coming up real fast. Do you live in California?

Nope I live in Minnesota. My home office is in Minneapolis. Its going to be a rough week. I graduate the 25th, take my test the 28th and than I have to move by the 1st. Needless to say the last thing I want to do is fail this test and have to retake it. I am still amazed that BEC has the highest pass rate, I honestly thought Audit was a breeze and that's got the lowest. I have this all wrong evidently.

Could someone please explain (in laymans terms) the distinction between a VAN and a WAN and a LAN. I get that a local area network is a subunit of a WAN (maybe not?) but it connects “nodes” to a network that are in close proxemity… but the concept of a VAN is not sticking. Any help would be greatly appreciated because most of what I am finding in Becker is just terminology.

I'm taking BEC on Monday 5/13…Anyone else taking it next week (before the 15th)? We will be in Wave 2 and our scores will be released on May 23. Yes! only 1.5 weeks of waiting!!

    Any tips for the test?

For written communication, I did not go over any simulations in my Wiley book…I'm using Roger and he said we don't have to have the answer correct, it just needs to be in good English and have the basic stuff, i.e., beginning, middle, and end…He advocates rephrasing the question in the intro, sometimes using the same words contained within the question. What do you guys think of this? Which one would be better? “As I understand, blah blah blah insert question” OR “This memorandum/letter will provide guidance with blah blah insert question”

I just found the 2013 AICPA released questions and did the multiple choice. I got a 65%. Is that bad for BEC? On the other sections I got around 72% on the released questions and passed each exam with scores in the 80s.

For anyone that has already taken BEC, are there a lot of calculations or mostly theory?

    Thanks! and Good luck everyone!

Some of those questions were pretty difficult, in particular the one where you had to actually calculate the PV Factor of an ordinary annuity. Averaged about an 80% so I know I have room for improvement but I have yet to go back through Becker and review so I am pretty happy with my progress so far. What's everyones plans for today?
