jeffKeymasterGuess I’ll kick it off!
Scheduled to take BEC on 4/19. It’s my last test so I’m putting as much study time in as I can. If I pass I get promoted, if I don’t pass I don’t get promoted, so the pressure is on!!
Good luck to everyone taking BEC this quarter!

AnonymousInactiveYes jade its correct. I am lost at hello though. Can you walk me through step by step if you have the time.

TheoMemberPer Becker:
Multiplier = 1/(1 – MPC)
Per question, multiplier is 4 (80/20).
so, 4 = 1/(1-MPC), solve for MPC:
4 x (1-MPC) = 1
1 – MPC = 1/4 (0.25)
MPC = 1 – 0.25 = 0.75

so1913ParticipantSo I solidified Friday off and may even be able to snag an extra day next week! Next Friday will be here before you know it…
I'm trying to decide now whether or not to purchase the Wiley TB…I have yet to really get through the Becker MCQ's thoroughly, but getting nervous about references to the questions being very different from each other. I'll focus on what I have and see how I feel over the next few days…

AnonymousInactiveWhat are you “referencing” other peoples reference to them not being similar? I have not heard this.. so now I'm concerned… lol But that could be good news, as I absolutely hate those B2 questions.

AnonymousInactiveI am confident in the material thus far, with the exception of variance analysis. It just doesn't click quite right with me. If this is your last, we are sooooo close I can see the finish line and Peter Olinto is standing there next to his convertible Bentley handing me my score! Its all about envisioning the win right?
May 8, 2013 at 10:13 pm #416413
TheoMemberlol @ the Olinto reference. I have never gone through review material as quickly as I am doing with BEC. I swear the finish line is so close I feel like I reach out and touch it. I am almost done with B5 and will probably do both B6 tomorrow and leave the weekend for IT, B4. Then I can do non-stop MCQs and practice for the written communication section. You know I only realized, today, that the written communication section is only worth 15% of the total score.
How is everyone else doing, study-wise?

AnonymousInactiveI know, thats why I am not stressing about WC what so ever. I am also flying through this. Just finished B5 and I hope to get to B6 tomorrow, IT was a good choice to leave until last. I am so confused as to how this section has the highest pass rate because this information is extremely meticulous and I feel as if I will never remember all of the little nuances for every section. At least with FAR everything tied itself together in a nice little package.

TheoMemberThe way I see it, if I can do really well in MCQs, any marks I pick up from WC is bonus. It is alot easier to answer an MCQ correctly about a topic you may not know too well, than to write a couple paragraphs about it. I am always unlucky to get questions from the areas that I am not too comfortable with for MCQs. Somehow I think they get a feel for you in the first testlet and then test your weaker areas in the following testlets.

AnonymousInactiveI feel the same way. I swear the one topic from FAR that was by far my weakest link yet still not terrible had about 17 questions on it, and IFRS, thats a different story. Good news (as Peter would say) is that I am rocking these Econ questions, Bad news is that all good things must come to an end when I start workin' those IT questions.

so1913Participant@bcjasper09 I've just seen it mentioned that WTB questions seem to be more difficult and differ from those Becker provides. It could be psychological…maybe because you work Becker over so many times that you become familiar and comfortable with them… and then when you get a whole new set of questions you have never seen before, they “appear” to be more difficult OR maybe they actually do have a higher level of more difficult MCQ. I don't know, but plenty pass just using Becker, or any one review course. I passed AUD with Becker alone, missed REG by 5, but I know if I had studies a little harder I could have had it. This is why I'm going back and forth with the idea of investing in WTB because it would be an extra expense, or just give it my best shot with what I have (Becker Review and NINJA Notes) first.

AnonymousInactiveOh okay, yes I know what you mean. I felt the WTB questions related to FAR were pretty tricky. If I were in your shoes I would probably not invest the extra money. Thats just my personal opinion because of the fact that your test is so close. I only used WTB for a week and going over the questions I saw on the test, I can't say that it made a huge difference? It was good review but if you only have a small amount of time it might not be worth the money? After reading the BEC test experience I would say that its basically the luck of the draw. You're either going to get a lot of topics you know or many that you don't. To be honest my goal for this is to just understand as many of the concepts as I can and just work MCQ's until test day. Timeline sucks, as I have to graduate the weekend before my test so probably will waste an entire day of valuable studying.

TheoMemberI got WTB as a supplement to Becker for FAR but only because I didn't want to keep doing the Becker MCQs over and over. I actually thought they were easier than Becker and said so in the forum but someone did comment that most think that Wiley is more difficult. So I guess it depends on you and how you dissect/understand questions probably. But if you have the time I would definitely recommend getting both because it's just more practice of how questions could be asked and what tricks and gimmicks to look out for.
@bjcasper09 I am so not looking forward to that IT lecture but I'll get it done just as I did Governmental Accounting in FAR..urrghh!

AnonymousInactiveI literally study from sun up to sun down, and take a break to go to my two college classes I have everyday. So I am putting in at least around 10 hours a day in I would say? Maybe 8 at the least. I do all the MCQ's.. BEC has been a little different for me because I am leaving the ones I have gotten wrong to go back and do again once I have finished all the material to test my knowledge because I find if I just redo them right after I get them wrong I am getting them right because I memorized the answer or the way they calculated it and not the underlying concept. To be honest, this test is a gamble for me. I take it the 28th and I don't know what to expect to be honest. I will have a Professional Accountancy Degree (the equivalent of a MAcc for a liberal arts school) and a Business Administration Bachelors degree. With all the business classes I've taken this stuff sounds familiar but its still quite foreign. You can do this! Just power through it. If you are fearing Econ, like I was, don't! I took econ early on in my freshman year and did not care for it than, but 3 years later, I actually find it more than interesting! IT on the other hand, the jury is still out on that one!
