    Guess I’ll kick it off!

Scheduled to take BEC on 4/19. It’s my last test so I’m putting as much study time in as I can. If I pass I get promoted, if I don’t pass I don’t get promoted, so the pressure is on!!

Good luck to everyone taking BEC this quarter!

    Mints,

It sounds like they're similar, but IT plays a much bigger role in BEC.

I'm not devoting too much time to it during my preliminary stages of study, but I'll be hitting it hard as I get closer to the exam date.

    Good luck!

Does anyone recommend CPAReviewForFree.com's MCQ's for BEC? Or the iPad app?

Shanta_J and Casey, hopefully we all see 75+ in a few weeks on Auditing!!!!! 🙂

Thanks for the feedback on IT! I'm also not a big fan of cost accounting…listening to Ninja audio on the cost chapter brought back horrible flashbacks from my cost accounting classes! The positive I'm trying to take from BEC is that this is more computational/analytical at first glance…it's either right or wrong! Auditing is very subjective and slippery, so I'm embracing the return of my calculator to CPA prep! 🙂

@MintsRGood… That's a good way to look at BEC, I will keep that in mind as I go through the material! I'm just on chapter 1 and won't start chapter 2 until tomorrow! I want to get through them all within 3 weeks so I have 3 weeks for review!!! I see you are taking FAR in July!! I was scared due to all the horror stories and pushed mine back to August!

My original plan was to take FAR on my birthday (crazy, I know).

    REG*75* 02.27.13(1)
    AUD*82* 04.15.13(1)
    BEC 05.29.13
    FAR 08.12.13

BEC IT is much more in depth than AUD from what I can tell going through the IT review in BEC. It does cover the same topics almost abut more, I feel it may be one of the easier areas on the exam.

I should be getting through B6 lecture & notes between today and tomorrow. I'm considering circling back to B1 and B2 over the weekend since I found about the NINJA approach after. Those were the hardest for me so far in this BEC review, so maybe it will be benficial to go back through and write out notes. After this weekend, I have 4 weeks to nail BEC concepts down, my exam is on May 17th. I really hope I can get this…

    AUD - 90 Pass
REG - 70,61,81 Pass DONE DONE DOOOOONNEEE!!!!!!!!
    BEC - 79 - Pass
    FAR - 70,82 - Pass

Thanks!! Did one more practice test today and I rocked it! Hoping it's because I know my stuff and not because I started recognizing questions. Really happy I only have to wait 2 weeks to find out. I REALLY hope this is it!!!!!

Has anyone taken both the Becker practice exams for BEC? I took the first one on Saturday and did pretty well and took the second one last night after work and it was a blood bath… Just wondering if anyone else had a similar experience or if I should just chalk it up to being spent after work and not properly focused. Real thing is on Saturday, trying to regain some confidence.

Learning curve is discussed on B2-22, keep working the questions and you'll eventually come across one.

I think I'm actually losing brain cells studying B-6.

    F - 85 (11/2012)
    R - 87 (1/2013)
    A - 92 (2/2013)
    B - 90 (4/2013)

    DONE!

Can someone please explain how they got this answer? My BEC exam is on Saturday morning.

    18. CPA-

Trendy Co. produced and sold 30,000 backpacks during the last year at an average price of $25 per unit. Unit variable costs were the following:

    Variable manufacturing costs $9

Variable selling and administrative costs 6

    Total $15

Total fixed costs were $250,000. There was no year-end work-in-process inventory. If Trendy had spent an additional $15,000 on advertising, then sales would have increased by $30,000. If Trendy had made this investment, what change would have occurred in Trendy's pretax profit?

    a. $3,000 increase.

    b. $4,200 increase.

    c. $3,000 decrease.

    d. $4,200 decrease.

    Explanation

    Choice “c” is correct.

    amelia,

The $30,000 increase in Sales would add an additional 1,200 backpacks to production($30,000/$25 = 1,200)

The 1,200 additional units would increase our Variable Costs by $18,000(1,200*$15/unit = $18,000)

The increase in advertising would increase our Fixed Costs to $265,000($250,000+$15,000 = $265,000)

    $780,000

    <$468,000>

    $312,000

    <$265,000>

    $47,000

Compare that $47,000 to the original numbers, and you'll find that Pretax Profit decreased from $50,000 to $47,000.
