BEC – Skipping Cost Accounting B1 & B2??

It takes me over 10 minutes for the majority of the calc questions, and its just IMPOSSIBLE. I have to guess on almost all the questions just to see the process on how they get the right answer.

How big is cost in the exam? If its like a couple questions, Id rather skip B1 & B2 and focus on the other stuff which is easier for me. I always hated cost.

I have 21 days before the exam. I am supposed to finish a chapter a day, and by the looks of it.. B2 has almost 250ish questions, I’ve only done 10?…

I don't think skipping B1 and B2 is going to work out for you. Combined, they're a pretty decent chunk of the exam. And, I agree with the above, learning cost accounting isn't TOO BAD. Using T-accounts helped me a lot more than some of the becker methods though. I'd suggest going back through B1 and B2 again before you restart the problems otherwise you'll just get more frustrated. Good luck!

Since you are struggling, it is important you keep working on them until you have it down. Skip them for now if you want, but make sure you come back.

I didn't do all of the cost accounting Q's, but I was getting all the ones I attempted & in the practice exams correct. You should focus on the stuff your struggling with – as long as you understand the explanations it'll come to you with practice.

I guess I am going to keep plugging away at the MC, and if I get them wrong (which is 90%) of the time, I learn better reading their explanation and seeing how they do it, VS. reading the book.

Is this really a big chunk of the exam? I thought Econ/IT were the big ones, didnt think cost is that huge..

    Thanks guys 🙂

There are so many formulas in chapter 2. Do I really need to know them all?

Figure out how the formulas relate to eachother (they almost always do), then just think it over your head and you'll see how they make sense. Don't memorize, understand what you're calculating.

Thanks, will try to do that. Id rather study the other 3 sections then the cost portion of BEC. I reallllly hated it in college, and hate it now. How many questions did you have that related to cost when you took BEC?

Stop trying to get out of studying what's challenging to you. Bottom line: you're likely to get quite a few cost questions, so suck it up and study

@OP…if any material was skippable, they shouldn't have been there already. Those topics are on your review books for a reason. Like Cashmoney10 said, skip NOTHING! Cost accounting (including variance) is VERY important!

Took the test last May. Do not skip cost accounting. You can be tested with anything in the study material. I took BEC twice and both exams were generally different topics.

Thank you for your tips. I guess I might have to pull my cost accounting book up to see some more examples, or just guess on the MCQ's if I cant figure it out and learn that way. I guess that counts for something 🙂

Stop being so negative. You're making it sound like you've already been defeated by cost accounting. The reality of the situation is that cost accounting is really not that hard. Sure if you're not familiar with it at first, it may seem a little daunting. But, really, cost accounting may actually even be more logical than regular financial accounting. If you can't get through cost accounting, how are you going to get through everything else?

The only thing you can skip is the intro, skipping cost is not advisable. Skip nothing.
