I have been cramming for my retake of BEC. I hate BEC so much. I’ve been studying way too many hours in the last couple days. I just read the below in my review materials and started laughing so hard I started crying. It’s time to take a break. Is this real life?

Personal computers (PCs) or workstations — Designed for individual users and typically include word processing and spreadsheet software, and, network connectivity to enable people to check their Facebook pages. Sometimes also called a “fat client.” but some of us avoid the use of the word “fat” except in reference to people that we dislike.

BEC is a like a person with multiple personality disorder. You don't know who or what you are going to get. And once you do, you're like “WTF?!”

If the internal rate of return is equal to the discount percentage rate (hurdle rate) used in the net present value computation, the net present value will be zero.

    So what? LOL.

I asked my husband to explain it to me in layman's term, but the more I got confused.

It'd be nice if someone here can explain this to me more clearly.

    Thanks!

@Amor D – I've gone over that over and over like a million times on my Gleim review and I'm still confused on that concept.

the definition of IRR is basically the rate at which net present value of an investment will equal zero.

let's say you're doing a net present value problem. to do a net present value problem, they will give you the cash flows, the initial investment, the length, and the discount rate. you multiply the cash flows by the present value factor found using the rate and length, subtract out the initial investment cost, and that's the net present value.

now, say the answer you get is $0 – the net present value of the investment is $0. when the net present value is $0, you know that the given discount rate is the IRR.

    as an example:

an investment costs $37,910. the investment will bring in annual cash flows of $10,000 for 5 years. the discount rate the firm will use is 10%. what is the net present value?

then a present value table would be given. present value of a 5 year annuity at 10% is 3.791.

    10,000 x 3.791 = 37,910 present value

    subtract out initial investment: 37,910 – 37,910 = $0. net present value is $0.

what is the IRR? well, at what discount rate is NPV = $0? at 10%. IRR is 10%.

Guys please help me out, I asked on another forum, but I want to confirm here because I cant find an announcement nowhere on the AICPA or Nasba's website. Has the examination scheduling been extended into the first week in December? how authentic is this? I want to move my exam from 11/30 to 12/4 …. IS THIS REAL? – I dont want to later find out that this is some sort of Prometric glitch. Thanks!
