Has anyone taken BEC in 2011 yet that did not pass in 2010? I am just curious as to how different the test really is. I am scheduled to take it this Saturday, so I would truly appreciate any info.

CCONVERSE-I received the 2011 material, and I have the 2010 Becker material. I 100% recommend using the 2011 material. The first chapter for 2010 does not even exist on the test anymore, and it is replaced with COSO information, which is heavily tested(approximately 20%). Also, the new format, in my opinion, is better because it provides ancillary material that probably will not be tested as much. With that being said, you still need to be familiar with the ancillary material. Variances are still going to be tested, so do not ignore those topics. I just think the format of the variances is more efficient in 2011 than in 2010. If you have more questions, please ask.

Also, I would recommend having a set outline for the writing simulations. You can have the same format for each topic, which will save time.

By “set outline,” Becker provides a rough outline on how to write a memo/letter/email for full credit. Essentially, I had a one to two sentence opening stating why I was writing the memo(restating the question almost), two to three body paragraphs(discussing advantages/disadvantages or each point, etc), and a formalized closing(If you have any further questions about such and such topic, please do not hesitate to contact me.) I prefer to have a set plan of attack, so I do not have to worry about writing an outline for each question.

Sorry it took me so long to respond, but I am studying for FAR. Any suggestions for FAR would be appreciated.

Question about written communications: do you put the memo heading (to, from, date, subject)?

It seems like they put the “to” and “from” already but I never put date or subject.

@CCONVERSE – I apologize for the delay – had major drama this last week (not exam related – but if its a sign how 2011 is going to go I have a feeling it won't be good).

Anyways, I don't know when your exam is/was but yes the 2011 materials are the way to go! The 2010 materials wouldn't be the worst but it won't cover the new material at all.

Corporate Governance is about 16-20% now. That is huge but there don't seem to be many practice questions on this. Anyone feel like Becker or Yaeger prepared them well enough?

I saw someone say the 2011 Wiley online questions were great. I can't really afford to buy $87 for questions but I will if Becker and Yeager don't do a good enough job.

I had taken BEC on 11/30/10 and got a 70 so I re-took it 1/16/11. I really think I knocked it out of the park. I did not feel good at all last time but this time I felt amazing when I left. I did not feel strapped for time at all. I am so glad business structures is gone and the IT questions were actually applicable this time. I am glad I left enough time for the written questions but, all in all, I think the 2011 one was much easier than the one I took in 2010.

Hey KPM0915, thanks for sharing your experience, I'm sure you'll pass:) did you feel the exam was adaptive this time around? did your testlets get harder? any advice on how much time to allocate to the WC?
