Not sure what’s up with this part, not doing well. I passed REG no problem with hard work. For BEC I put in the same effort and have very very little chance of passing. Averaging 65% mostly from Corp Gov, COSO and IT, I keep working the variances hard and have tried everything, I just blank out when those questions come up. Going for the bomb – deep pattern on 1/17. This weekend I will put in 30 hours, and maybe gain 2 points. No way am I rescheduling though. Please help with real advice. Many thanks.

    Reg 11/15/2011 - 80
    Aud 02/28/2012 - 81
    Bec 05/31/2012 - 78
Far 08/31/2012 - 83 Do you believe in Miracles, YES !!!

I felt and feel the same exact way. I don't know what it is about BEC…I thought for sure it would be one of the easier sections. I am having such a hard time with it though. I took it at the end of November and thought I was going to bomb it….I spent nearly all of my time memorizing formulas and went through about 20% of the MCQs. I got a 73…which actually amazed me because I walked out of there knowing there wasn't a chance in hell that I passed and thought I would get in the 50's or 60's. My problem was that I didn't go through the multiple choice questions…huge mistake. Even if you're not getting a high score on them, you're still doing yourself a big favor by going through them. You'll remember it when you get a question like it on the exam. I also ran out of time on the test because I got a ridiculous amount of calculations so be sure to pace yourself through the multiple choice questions. I ran out of time on my last simulation and if I hadn't, maybe I would have gotten those two extra points. I'm retaking it on Friday. Good luck!

AUD: PASSED [81]; Expired, retaking August 23rd
BEC: PASSED [83]; Expired, retaking July 11th
    REG: PASSED [83]
FAR: FAILED [64]; Retaking May 23rd

I'm in the same boat as you, and many other that I've heard take BEC. I can study this stuff all day, but it doesn't seem to translate into good scores on my MCQ's. I've never had this many 50-65% scores when I took AUD and FAR.

What study material are you using? Sometimes trying something different helps make the material click.

    Here is my approach.

As far as concept questions, if you do not understand the concepts, practicing multiple choice will not matter nearly as much.

However, with the formula questions, as others have mentioned, it is good to understand the variety of formula-based questions you may be asked so that you do not burn 3-5 minutes on just one question. The best way to attack this is MCQ practice (but know the concepts ie tax shield for concept MCQs) Also, sometimes practicing the hardest of a type of question is more efficient than practicing carbon copy questions that aren't as difficult. Don't be concerned with getting a % right, be concerned with learning religiously what you are getting wrong. After that, the % should be self correcting.

So far I have done heavy reading along with heavy multiple choice. I am doing both side by side the whole way (on my second read-through of Becker).

    REG 80 2/7/11
    FAR 91 10/8/11
    AUD 97 11/22/11
    BEC 96 2/4/12

    CPA 3/15/13

Justinnnn – thanks. What I have been doing is printing the questions I get wrong (using exam matrix) and compiling all the wrong questions in a pile and plan on having a marathon session digesting those. My goal is to give a full effort. I can deal with failing just cant deal with studying 80% effort then failing. If I fail with a full effort, so be it. As long as i did my best.

    Bec 05/31/2012 - 78

    Ratios – my favorite.

    WACC

    Cost of debt

    Cost of equity

    Degree of leverage (operating/financial/combined)

    Expected Value

    Profitability index

    Residual Income

Economic Order Qty – list goes on and on and on and on. How do we keep all this straight. CPAs don't actually remember all this – they look it up if they need it. But LOL, kill us.

    AUD - Passed:)
    FAR - Passed:)
    REG - Retake TBD
BEC - Missed by 3 points Retake TBD
