Hi all,

I've been lurking around this forum for a while, but now that I'm about to take my first part early next week (BEC), I finally registered because I have some questions! I have been using Becker self-study to prepare. First, do you think it's necessary to read all the appendixes at the back of the chapters? Also, doing the homework questions first time around, my scores ranged from 70-100….is that any indication on how I should expect to perform on the exam? I always went over all the questions that I got wrong and usually received between 95-100 on those. Has anyone done the sample test provided on cpa-exam.org? And lastly, are all questions on the actual exam weighted equally (besides the ones that don't count since they're in the ‘testing stage')?

@bakagal. Sounds like you are doing quite well w/ Becker. Just keep doing what you are doing. I would read the all of the material, there are questions on the appendixes and supplemental reading. I'm currently using Becker and I like it. The book even says to NOT read the material more than once. They key is to keep doing the questions, practice tests and the AICPA practice tests. Keep in mind that everyone is different, we all study, retain information and process information differently, so the last thing I will say is that if you spend too much time in a blog it will cloud your mind with doubt based on other peoples experiences, so just take it all w/ a grain of salt and remain confident in yourself. bakagal – I also used Becker and I at least scanned over the appendixes. The technical addendum for IT may help you pick up a couple of points. I know its hard to get through. I would read 3 or 4 pages before bed each night because thats all I could stand without falling asleep. But breaking it up made it more bearable!

Your practice scores seem to be high enough. Most people indicate that Becker questions are harder than the actual test questions.

The way I understand it is that the exam questions are weighted based on their difficulty.

@wannabeecpa: IT is probably the more difficult part of BEC but I used Wiley and it did a great job. I would suggest that you study the Wiley IT section atleast twice with the questions and you should get a good idea of what to expect. You can't really do much about few of those questions which come out of nowhere other than to make an intelligent guess.

Let's be honest, walking away is just NOT going to happen.. I went to get a haircut and was anxiously waiting there so I could come home and watch other people post on here. I told myself I'm not going to check NASBA until someone else on here posts that the scores are up, but I've still done it several times..

I guess I check because I am hoping that there are no unexpected circumstances that may come up and the scores won't come up. For example, I am a little curious that its been a while since some states have posted scores. Also, I have noticed that the AIPCA hasn't released another section. Maybe this is just my anal side coming out but this is just the thoughts that pass through my mind.
