Hi everyone,
I got a 92 (found out this morning) so I'm going to share my experience here hoping to help some of you.
BEC was my first test and when I walked out of there (didn't have anything to compare it to), I felt like I passed but I had no idea what kind of score I could expect. As I was going through the actual test, I marked off anything that I was not 100% sure about, which was abou 6-8 questions give or take per testlet. Then, once I reached the end of each testlet, I reviewed all the questions I marked off and usually ended up taking the marks off half of them. Then, once I was done that, I reviewed all questions starting from one and going till thirty, including all the questions I marked off. I work pretty quickly so I don't know if you'd have time for that. But when I clicked done at the end of the exam, there were really only about 4 questions in total that I wasn't sure about and those could have been test questions (one of them was just weird as anything!)
I used Becker only and I thought it was great. Out of the questions I wasn't sure about at the end, half were probably my fault and the other half were probably test questions. Some of the IT questions did come out of nowhere but since they were so random, I don't think any study material would have put any focus on those. Becker did have some of the info in those questions in the supplement but I had just skimmed quickly through it.
I studied about 5 weeks but not always everyday and not always for so long. I only went through all the material once, but I did it pretty thoroughly so that even though I barely reviewed for it at the end, the material stuck. Sometimes it would take me 10 minutes to go through 1 page (I am so serious- it takes me forever to get through any one section of Becker reading because I try to understand it completely!) I mostly just read and did the multiple choice questions after each reading section (you know how they break it up?) If I had any question, I would watch the video lecture just for that part. (But I didn't really watch the videos since they skipped a lot of the material so I knew I would have to read through the book anyways.) I also did all the supplemental questions as they came up after each section. Occasionally, if I felt I were weak on a section, I would make myself some quizzes. And at the end, I of course did both final exams (which were much much harder than the actual exam!! I only scored around an 80 and 72 respectively on those). One of the most important things to remember is to do as everyone else says- do not move on until you're pretty comfortable with a concept and when you get multiple choice questions wrong, know why you got them wrong and why the right answer is the right one!! If I got a question wrong and it wasn't just due to a careless mistake-if I didn't fully understand their explanation, I usually used the lookup function to look up the concept again in the book really quickly.
One thing to note- I'm a visual learner and when I write material over, it really helps me understand. So 2 things I did that helped me were #1, as I read through the book, I used their highlighting tools a LOT. And #2, if I got any question wrong, I would copy the answer explanation that Becker gave over to the My Notes tool..that way I had explanations of concepts I didn't fully understand and copying it over gave me an extra review.
Sorry if this is so long but I hope it helps someone!
