BEC- Do we need FAR knowledge in order to pass BEC?

I watched the written communication tutorial provided by Becker for BEC last night. They said that due to the changes made to BEC this year, we may see written communications that focus on topics covered in other sections of the CPA exam. Does anyone have any experience and/or knowledge on this matter? I want to take BEC before FAR, but If we need significant FAR knowledge than It wouldn’t be too smart.

    Thanks!!!

Nope. if you are concerned about the Written Communications, you basically do not need any knowledge at all. The written part does not test you on correct information, rather your writing abilities.

    FAR - 83 - 05/23/2011
    BEC - 85 - 07/02/2011
    AUD - 79 - 08/13/2011
    REG - scheduled Oct 10

So they don't test the accuracy of the information whatsoever? Grading just depends on how well written the answer was?

    Thanks!

2/3 of my written communications I knew, one of them I was 100% wrong. There's a chance that could have been a pretest but I still got comparable overall on the WC.

    BEC- 80
    REG- 68, 71, July
    AUD- 61 , 84
    FAR- -- 75 🙂

What they want from you is to answer the question by stating your position. back it up.

for example, a question may ask me which is better- IRR or NPV.

i can say NPV is better and then when I back it up, I might use facts to back it up that are true to IRR but not NPV. Points will not be deducted for that.

Points will be deducted for abbreviations, grammar, lack of organization and focus, etc.

Address the question, state your position, have a good body, summarize everything u wrote for the conclusion.

    Basic english 101.

    FAR - 83 - 05/23/2011
    BEC - 85 - 07/02/2011
    AUD - 79 - 08/13/2011
    REG - scheduled Oct 10

I'm studying for BEC and I have to say, my FAR knowledge does come in handy at times. So, I would say, yes, it's good to have some FAR knowledge when taking BEC. I would also recommend having some AUD knowledge as well.
