How's everyone's review going? I'm going to start my final review of my Cost Accounting notes. I'm using Wiley and so far I've covered, Corp Gov, Econ, Capital Budgeting, and IT. I feel a little shaky on cap budgeting but I just need some time to write down the valuation formulas, and do more questions. Definitely need to hammer ninja notes. Hopefully I can wrap up cost accounting in by tomorrow and then I'll friday sat sunday all day to review everything.

anyone else taking the exam on the 10th?

Just took my exam.. I’m not sure how I feel. A lot of people said they had a bunch of calculation questions upfront but I had it on the second set. I think the exam was fair, it had questions from every single chapter.. the sims and writing was do-able. Good luck to everyone taking it!!

    Please Help!!!! VERY IMPORTANT QUESTION….

Is the 1 year work experience required upon completion of the CPA Exam or can it be completed after the exam is complete? I am sitting to take the BEC hopefully in August but do not have the 1 year work experience in. Does anyone know how long I have until my exam scores are no longer valid and I have to start over??

Your scores are good for 18 months.

@hash This is for the CalCPA Website:

A: No. Once you have passed all four sections of the Uniform CPA exam, your exam credits do not expire. However, the ethics examination expires within 24 months of passing, so it is recommended that you take that examination close to the time you are ready to apply for licensure.

So you have time to get your experience.

@Swan goodluck hope you pass! I'm worried more for the Sims than I am for the MCQs. Any tips on where to focus before my exam tomorrow?

Ahugemistake, I took BEC today and my MCQs weren’t heavy on calculation and where on all areas covered by review course. Sims was very heavy on calculations, all of them on different topics.I didn’t found any preferred topic, so you should be familiar with all of them. Good luck on your exam.

    Hi everyone,

I just took the BEC exam for the second time yesterday, scored a 74 on the first round.

I think my performance on this exam was much better, MCQ's were managable and most of the TBS were fine – all subjects covered in Becker. I still ran out of time to fully develop the writing component – you need at least one hour for all 3. I had about 33 minutes. The one TBS that is keeping me up at night required rating an investment using a scale of 1-4 – it was difficult to distinguish the cash flows using the income statement. With the time I had left, there was no way I was going to be able to complete it. Has anyone seen anything like that before? Hoping it was a pre-test, otherwise that one TBS will probably fail me.

The good thing is, I didn't leave as shell shocked as I did the first time.

Hoping for the best this time around!!!

@sasha Goodluck and I hope you pass! I hope I get a similar exam. I really don't want to deal with calcs in the MCQs.

@FOBCPA if the other sims weren't as intense as that big one, then it was most likely a pretest. In my experience pretests include new topics, obscure topics, or just convoluted calculations. They are time hogs! I fell for that trap in FAR but for REG I kept myself on a strict 15 to 20 minute time frame for each sim.

BEC has 12 pretests in MCQs, 1 pretest normal TBS, and 1 pretest WC

so really there are 2 TBS that go towards your score, hope you got them!

Just took the test today. It was not that horrible as I thought bc I saw some people running out of time or got the really long SIM. I managed to finish all questions within time limit. I did get some MCQs that I had no idea about them mainly COSO (bc I really did not really understand this model and I could not allocate more time in learning this topic due to time limit) but overall experience was not too bad compared with my REG exam (I took in April and got 73). And I did feel confident when I walk out of the exam. Based on my past experience of how I feel after finishing REG and FAR, I believe I can pass.
However, after thinking more afterwards, I started to feel unsure about whether I could pass the exam. Fingers Crossed for June 19th.

Goodluck @Yuling, I wish I could say the same. I got some really long simulations which were time consuming and made me rush through the entire exam. I was able to finish all the questions but I do not feel confident about the TBS. I was able to do the WC questions in time however, so I'm hoping it gets me over the hump.

    Eagerly awaiting the 19th.

i took BEC on Saturday and I agree with @victorm it was “brutal.” i don't feel really good about it tbh. it could go 50/50 where i would be shocked if i passed, not surprised if i failed. i def needed the full 4 hours, and saved 45 minutes for Writing prompts but could've used an hour. the 1st MCQ was computational heavy. you really need to allocate your time on these. i always go 45 mins per MCQ and after i reach that limit i force myself to move on and just guess. the first testlet i would've done better if i allocated 1 hour or 1 hour and 15 minutes but i forced myself to move on. i would say the MCQ on the exam had 20 calc questions, 9 i knew for sure, 5 were legit guesses i had no idea, and 6 i could narrow down to 2 choices. i used Becker, did all the MCQ and feel like somehow Becker's MCQ were easier than the exam questions which is so crazy to me cuz the Becker MCQ were not easy. some of those MCQ calc questions were just very complex i thought, some were very easy, and there were some medium. as for the conceptual questions, i always read here that Becker doesn't prepare you well for the COSO/IT. i would say Becker preps you well for the COSO principles and basic IT principals, but on the exam they obviously dont just test you on what EBOCA means, the questions were more “audit” focused and heavy on COSO and IT for sure. definitley more situational and intricate rather than “what principle goes with the control environment” some IT questions i had to guess, some COSO questions looked like all the answer could be correct lol. i think i blacked out during the exam i was so taken aback. Sims were pretty brutal i thought. def didn't get easy SIMS like the AICPA practice test shows. i feel really good about 1, 2 i prob got 50% on and 1 i had no clue. writing prompts were doable, but with only 45 mins left to allocate to them and getting nervous from writers block, i just typed everything into nice paragraphs i could think of while restating prompt as best i could.

i don't think i got the “easy” BEC exam some ppl i read have gotten, i think i got the harder one for sure. hoping for 75% next week but these exams are so whacky so who knows.

@Nat I had the exact same experience as yours when I took it on 6/4! The first testlet was so computational, I had a very long calculation question popped out when the exam loaded. Couldn't tell if the second testlet was harder but still had a lot of calculations and IT. I really am not sure how I did cause I don't remember all the questions and they covered everything.

I wanted to say even though I felt terrible about the BEC exam, I passed it. I didnt feel good about the mc or tbs during the test. In fact I felt so bad that I thought I should just walk out. I did finish it all and felt hopeless about it. I guess you should never lose faith in yourself if you have put in the effort and hardwork!
