    Hi Born To Win,

First thing we need to do to solve this question is figure out what percentage of sales our variable costs make up. So, 850,000/1,275,000 = 67% or 2/3. Since we know that this relationship will stay constant (that variable costs will remain 2/3 of sales) and that fixed costs are static at 350,000, for next year. This makes the next formula we need: 1 – .67 = .33 (or 33%) Using a little algebra, and knowing that the remainder (the other 33%) our of sales total must cover our fixed costs, but no more since we want the break even figure, we then divide the fixed costs by 33%: 350,000 / .33 = 1,050,000.

To proof this: (2/3 or .666666667) X 1,050,000 = 700,000. Sales of 1,050,000 – Variable costs of 700,000 = 350,000. Once fixed costs are expensed, we're left with $0 EBITDA or break even.

    Hope this helps!

Hi šŸ™‚ I am taking BEC on Nov 10th!
I just started studying, but I believe I'm strongest in cost accounting because I audit a ton of construction companies.
I'm struggling with Microeconomic / stupid supply & demand charts! -_-

    Hey everyone!!
    1. Iā€™m scheduled to take BEC in early November
    2. Iā€™m most comfortable with corporate governance – as a current auditor the concepts on internal controls and ERM frameworks are pretty familiar to me.
    3. Operations management worries me the most – my only exposure to it was my cost accounting class 3 years ago and the review material.
