2010PleaseParticipantnyguy26: I agree, the PURE DADS seems to be the most helpful. Some of the problems though…pilfering through all of the info and converting it to the form I need to use PURE DADS can be daunting at times…will be pounding on the MCQ and supplementals today!! Hopefully, they will make me STRONG!!
Florida_Candidate: Great to hear – I have been a little worried about using Becker alone for BEC…but I hope it works out. Isn't a 99 a perfect score on AUD…impressive? I got a 92 on AUD and was thrilled, but I didn't do hardly as well on REG though – got an 85. I had one area on my REG exam that Becker has pretty much glossed over, and it turned out to be an entire simulation on my exam (and about three years since I'd had the tax class too). That being said, I did ace everything else on the exam to get the 85, and Becker is the reason I was able to do that – the rest of the exam seemed very familiar…so, I'm happy. Just worried about BEC at this point. I have another friend who failed BEC with a 74 but passed everything else with high scores…and she used Becker.

Florida_CandidateParticipant@2010Please – yes a 99 is a perfect score 🙂 I was pretty darn stoked, I cried when I saw it :). And yeah I've heard about people failing BEC with becker too but I just see that as a note to myself to REALLY STUDY everything in that book. I'm assuming every small detail will be on the exam. I think for all the other sections Becker covers everything and then some… maybe for BEC they only cover everything and not the “then some” so if you gloss over sections you'll end up not getting everything? I don't know, I figure if I can score a 91 and 99 I can at least pass BEC 🙂
I'm worried about REG though, tax is my worst skill so I left it for last so I could get down the “perfect study method” before I tried to tackle it. At least i still have more than a year til my FAR score expires 😀

njguy26Participant2010 Please: Some of the problems definitely are so time consuming, totally agree with you there, and like you my day will be spent going over that section and working through the seemingly endless multiple choice questions. I worked through about half of chapter 5 and felt at least decent about it. Definitely gotta go through it one or two more times though.
I'm also a little worried about the BEC content studying with Becker. I've heard from a few people that individual tests can focus on one part over the other so it's almost like playing the lottery lol. Just hope I get a fair test at least that isn't overwhelming. Gonna have to thoroughly review each chapter a couple more times and hope I can be really strong with 1, 2 and 4 and know enough 3 and 5 to get that desired 75.

Florida_CandidateParticipantOkay Becker's explanation to a question was “we think the AICPA released this question because it never made it to the exam… we don't really know what answer choice A means, but we do know the other ones are wrong, so A is the correct answer”
LOL!

njguy26ParticipantHaha some of their questions and explanations are not encouraging, ESPECIALLY in the IT section. Too many are like “None of these are good, but this is the best one here.” Not too happy seeing those haha. Let's hope they are just practice ones.

njguy26ParticipantYea those are tons of fun. Lots of calculations there, I think that section alone took me about 2.5 hours. Chapter 5 is pretty tough I gotta say, so many formulas to memorize and apply and the calculations are pretty lengthy. Only getting around 60% right the first time through in the planning, budgeting, and cost measurement section which has been by far the toughest one for me yet. At least the others I've been doing better. Of course if this is the part I struggle with the test will have a bunch of questions on this area.

njguy26ParticipantAnd chapter 5 has 197 supplemental questions. I think I just died inside too 🙁

2010PleaseParticipantA glimmer of hope in B5 Class Notes in the veerrrryyyyy last paragraph:
“…some of the homework and supplemental questions were taken from prior CMA exams and use single highly detailed fact pattern followed by multiple questions. This format is not used in computer-based testing. The questions have a high degree of difficulty likely not to be duplicated on your exam; however, they are extremely effective as a study tool.”
This statement gives me hope that if we can muster our way through the monster MCQ and supplemental questions, we'll be tough enough to handle anything thrown at us on the real exam. Here's to hoping, anyway. 🙂

meanwhile I just set up an entire spreadsheet to solve this giant NPV problem when in reality they were only asking the PV of the working capital investment. Hmph. Here's to a wasted 5 minutes…
