Congrad Texas Tech and CPA_WDJ on getting through the exam.

I was going to take my BEC today but work was to busy and I wasn't going to have that last minute cram so i put it off till the 19th of Oct. Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I don't think anyone can over prepair for Cost Accounting. I've beenSpending a lot of time on that and IT since they make up almost half of the test, and I was weak on Cost Accounting last time.

Good Luck on that 75 or better!!

    BEC 81 expired, 74, Oct 80
    FAR 79
    REG 70, 70, 82

Congrats on getting it done TexasTech 🙂 best of luck!!!

I take mine on Monday and all I can do at this point is work my weak areas over and over. My nerves are killing me.

Thanks for the advise on not forgetting other areas. Sometimes I get too wrapped up in overcoming an obstacle I forget to keep an eye on the other big areas like IT.

    CPA_WDJ,

Sounds like you must have been given a similar exam to the one I took last week. I'm almost positive I took an uneducated guess at the first 5 questions…not even sure I'd heard any of the topics or subjects of 20-25 of the questions in the first two testlets.

Then, the third testlet was nothing but “normal” answerable questions that were actually based on materials covered.

I felt like it was an enormous IQ test (with no directions, causing you to have to draw conclusions based on relationships or similarities or contrasts). As long as they throw pitches(questions) that are in the box whether it be a strike or a ball…or at least in the direction of the catcher I seem to have no problem – but when they start pitching half-cocked, over your head into the grandstands I just want to run out and smash the pitcher in the mouth.

If they grade the last section only – I scored really well, if they grade all three – I failed miserably.

They should consider testing less of the ambiguity surrounding the accounting field and focus more on the useful/practical details that are most readily encountered in the work place.

Someone clearly gets their jollies out of throwing 5 bizzarro questions at candidates followed by what is a testable question just to scramble the candidates brain in an attempt to make the candidate believe they don't know the material. I say stick to the material and STOP trying to be so dammmmed cute all the time. It doesn't make the exam any more dynamic or challenging or interesting – it just makes it look cheap and contrived as if they can't give you questions from the material to challenge you they have to stoop to cheap trickery.

That said, I look forward to taking this test or my remaining sections as many times as I have to – no matter the time or expense; I've way too much time, effort and energy invested in this to ever even consider looking back now. I'm not made of money but the AICPA must think I am as the more I look at their actions, delayed reactions and bogus tactics I'm convinced its just a money grab …I'd much prefer to just write them a check for some outrageous amount and be done with their shannanigans but now I'm dug in to beat them at their own game – however rudely elementary their test creating skillsets.

WOW carolinablues, i could not have said it better myself, i too have passed both reg and far and am having a miserable time with bec, i am going into my 6th attempt on the 20th. it seems that each time i take the exam they test heavily on other areas instead where i spent the most time on.

GOOD LUCK i know i will need it!

lol! it's all about the money.. and patience, and endurance; definitely.

On a different note; simple question: Becker says LPs have limited life but while testing with cpareviewforfree, they say LP's have perpetual life. Which one is it?

    Tnx

limited life, the only business structure with perpetual is a C- Corp.

Becker says B5 problems are tougher than what we should expect to see on the actual exam.

I sure hope this is true of all the B5 sections and not just the supplemental. I'm having a miserable time on a lot of this stuff and I haven't even glanced at the supplementals yet.

I noticed the tough ones are the ones that have the question # as the format of “D.88 – 1.14” for example. I am guessing these are the CMA questions. God I hope I see nothing like that on my exam. I'm just flat out skipping quite a few of them.

    whitesoxfan:

B5 problems are WAY more difficult than the actual ones on the exam.

If you do well in becker, you will have no problem whatsoever on the exam. You could actually schedule your CMA exam and go sit for that right after 🙂

In my experience, B3 problems are tricky on the exam, because of poor wording.

There were a couple of questions where I knew how to solve, but I probably got the answers wrong because of ambiguous wording. One of those situations in which during college you would go to the professor and say ‘wtf”.

Couldn't do that at the prometric center lol

    Thanks, Italian dude.

I cruised right through B3. No problems at all. I figured all the talk about B3 and B5 was nothing I should really be concerned with. Then I started B5. Wow…hands down, by FAR the most difficult section of any of the 26 chapters in all the Becker books for me. But hey, at least it's my last section!

I'm super strong on economics and finance. I'm probably average on business structures. I'm a bit weak on IT (if the exam has questions only from Becker's text, I'll be fine!) and struggling with cost accounting. I'm good on the formulas for B5, but some of those questions I just have no clue and the formulas don't help me whatsoever.

I had no trouble with B3 at all. There were just two questions that were worded so poorly that you couldn't tell if some figures were after-tax or before-tax (I hope this doesn't violate the non-disclosure clause).

Then I thought “ok, let me try to solve this both ways and I'm sure only one answer will be available”. Sure enough both answers were available, in both cases.

I just went conservative and thought that was a trick. There was probably no trick and the questions were just awfully worded.

Had I got a 74 I would be extremely upset.

My exam is tomorrow and I have taken both Becker practice exams. On the first one I scored 80/73/86 and the second one 86/70/60 because I ran out of time, the questions were very complex. Did anyone have an issue with time on their test? I don't know what to think and what to do in these last few hours of studying…….
