Inactiveenaa: Been there, done that! I just passed my first section (REG) with an 87 and I've failed BEC twice with a 70 & 66. I DO NOT get it. Why can I not pass this section? What are your study tactics? Who are you using? I'm using Yaeger and I'm in the process of starting all over again with CD's, etc. I have got to pass this section on the next try (July). Trust me….I know what you're going through. 🙁

InactiveTo be honest, I had the hardest time with BEC as well. I got a 74 twice and just felt like I could not get over the hump. Finally I broke through with an 85. I think one of the best things to do with BEC that helped me the most was tons and tons of practice questions.

InactiveI started in May 2010. I used Rogers online class, did Wiley CD, wasn't too comfortable and got 66. I re-read Rogers book, did Wileys CD got a 72. Than, I took 2 full weeks, did Wileys CD and book MC and got a 74.
In 2011, I wanted to change direction, I bought Bisk, read that boring book, really understood the material. Listened to some of the lectures, did the Bisk MC. Got the 2011 Wiley software, did lot's of tests (because at the time I didn't know I can select custom tests, and have lots of questions on each topic). I was very comfortable and confident with the material. Left the test happy, and got a ^(!!!I left my job for this, I study at least 5 hours M-F. Latest BEC I took 2 months because I had to read Bisk, but a full week to actually study. Now I am considering refreshing on BEC, doing the MC on the Wiley CD and the MC in Wileys book, and taking a live Roger class. Maybe get a tutor???Any suggestions?June 23, 2011 at 5:17 am #286472Anonymous
Inactive@dork: how did you study to get an 85 and what materials did you use?

InactiveI passed REG and FAR with Roger, and it was great. His info and Wileys CD did it for me

ParticipantEnaa I am in the same boat. Different exam (REG). I also quit my job to study 5 hours a day, and I still got the same score as when I was working full time. I'm wondering if switching is a good or bad idea. I am surprised you could pass REG and FAR with Roger but not BEC. I took BEC back in November, did not pass, it was very difficult. Every thread I see for BEC materials, everyone bashes every review program. BEC is just really had to study for, a lot of random little topics. I guess my only advice is to work as many MCQs as you can.
AUD 81 (X4) Previous scores 59, 72, 72
REG 80 (X3) Previous scores 59, 60
FAR 75 (X2) Previous score 67
BEC 79 (X2) Previous score 58June 23, 2011 at 10:57 am #286475LAGOS975
ParticipantDid anyone of you who got the email to take the BEC AICPA fieldtest actuelly pass the BEC EXAM? Did anyone volunteer to take the fieldtest, was not selected but eventuelly failed the actual BEC EXAM? Thanks for your comment.

MemberI hate BEC I think it's one hell of a beast! There is absolutely no congruity to it…economics,IT,cost, etc.! I'm beginning to think the AICPA wants us to fail. I went to Norwich University in VT and had a 3.9 gpa
and have never had exams as hard as this one. I almost gave up, I had passed AUD and then sat for REG. I was certain I failed so I lost faith and stopped studying only to find out I passed with an 81! I had never been so excited to get an 81 before. I had been using Bisk but I passed using Becker. The essays are my nemesis. I had so many computations on my last exam and ran out of time. I need help in budgeting time…anyone have any suggestions. I haven't tried it yet but a CPA friend of mine used only gleim books and passed. I think I'll get one for BEC and FAR.June 23, 2011 at 1:33 pm #286477SoFlaCPA
ParticipantI passed BEC the first time I took it. I used Becker, but instead of using the CDs I went to the live classes and I think that helped a lot. I did the cost accounting multiple choice questions 3-4 times since that was my weakest area. I did the IT and economics questions twice. I also did all of the supplemental questions and both of the final review exams. I didn't spend anytime practicing for the sims. Hope that helps.

Inactivewhat's the best way to study for BEC, do ALL the multiple questions few times, until you really know them inside out?

ParticipantI used Wiley and Becker text and did problems from the Wiley test bank and Becker passmaster. I didn't do videos or classes. IMO, neither of them is great on it's own. I don't like organization of Wiley and found text to be turgid. Becker better organized (but not ideal) and easier to read, but far too much ancillary material. I felt really unprepared just a few days prior to the exam because it was just a bunch of unrelated topics I kept getting confused with each other. I printed out the CSO and used it as a study guide, doing the following for each section:
–wrote a brief (2-3 sentence) description of purpose of section- this helped me keep straight what to do and when
–reviewed all the material I had (Becker notes, ninja notes, my notes, skim thru texts)
–wrote down the key points and formulas on separate pages
–did relevant MCQ from all sources
At the end, I reviewed my new notes and formulas and did lots of MCQ for IT (a weak spot for me). By that point, I felt pretty good about the other areas. I went over the formulas again the morning of the exam.
Based on my exam experience, I'd add the following
–know in detail all the info about COSO and ERM. It's easy to get all the similar terms confused
–ninja notes are great for IT – had to laugh when I saw that was one of my strong areas on the performance report.
–make sure to allow enough time for writing portion -at least an hour
–if your running short of time, make sure to use the right format and hit the key points even if your sentences and paragraphs are short.
Good luck to y'all.
FAR 4/1/11 - 89
AUD 4/15/11 - 85
REG 4/29/11 - 80
BEC 5/13/11 - 85June 25, 2011 at 12:44 am #286480Anonymous
InactiveHi kb24, I see that you did all 4 parts within 2 months. How did you manage your time? Do you full time study? I work full time and just found out that I failed AUD with 72(This stress me out because my FAR will be expired next year February, and I haven't touch REG yet). My BEC expired and need to retake it. I plan to take BEC in end of July and AUD in August. Do you have any suggestion? Thank you!

ParticipantI finally passed BEC in this window with a 85! After failing twice before with two 72s…………
I strongly believe I passed this time because of the wiley test bank. I used becker passmaster before (hard-copy). Wiley test bank helped me a lot because they display the question one at a time just like the real exam. I guess I can concentrate A LOT MORE and really understand the question better when I read the question one at a time on the screen.
They are basically the same questions with wiley and becker. I guess sometimes the delivery of information may be the key. You just have to find the most effective way to absorb information for yourself! Good luck guys!
