While studying for bec I feel like it’s going to be a breeze. Between college, far, reg, and audit, I feel like this is the third or fourth time seeing this material. I’m not sure why some people take the tests out of order. Does anyone else feel like bec was a breeze? Am I in for a rude awakening on test day? It seems like almost every subject was tested also on another exam accept maybe economics which we probably all took in college.

I take BEC next week. The main thing I'm worried about is that it's ALL MCQ's and historically, SIMs have saved my a$$. I mean, I'm totally confident in my writing ability so there's a *little* pressure taken off of the MCQ's but it's certainly not 40%.

Plus, with FAR for instance, if I couldn't get my arms around a concept – or even an entire chapter/module for that matter – I wasn't *that* concerned because there was SO MUCH MATERIAL available for questioning. Common sense would be that one particular topic can't make or break you. With BEC, that's not the case. The weight for each MCQ is much greater and the material is much less so I'm really thinking you have to know the details of this section.

    FAR - 87 2/18/14
    AUD - 84 4/2/14
    REG - 87 7/23/14
    BEC - 78 8/26/14

I'm finally an *official* CPA - TX

Oooh, good point, Yourmom. With the exception of FAR, I've felt like the sims have pulled me through. And in college, I've always been much better at the short answer/show your calculation/essay part of tests than the MCQ portion– I'm much better at creating my own answer out of thin air than picking the right answer out of a lineup for some reason. We only get 15% weighting of the first kind of response on BEC. That's rough.

    AUD 84 (1/9/14-Wiley books/TB + free materials)
FAR 83 (5/21/14-the above + NINJA 10 Pt Combo Lite)
    REG 84 (7/9/14-Wiley books/TB + NINJA Audio/FC/Notes)
    BEC 76 (10/5/14-Wiley books/TB + NINJA Audio/FC)

Felt easy, walked out with an 82. I'll admit given how good I felt walking out, I thought it'd be higher. But it's north of 75, I'm done, and that works for me.

It had a lot more calculations than I expected. First testlet was alright and took about 20 minutes.. the second and third had a lot of calculations and took over an hour each, leaving little time for the writing.

The weird thing is… I was doing great when I studied.. and my practice scores were about 10 points higher than my AUD practice scores, so who knows.

I didn't expect BEC to be as hard as it was.

Would you say the review course and the formulas prepared you fairly for this exam?

Well I did Gleim, which tends to have the hardest questions. The practice I did prepared me, and I think I was able to figure out most of the calculations, but they took a long time, which didn't leave much time for the writing.

As far as the conceptual areas, they just made the questions hard. Meaning that for areas I understand pretty well, they just made the questions/answer choices really confusing, so I don't think studying any more would have helped. It was just hard.

I hear this about long calcs in this thread a lot. What sort of long calcs are these. Can you give me a unrelated example.

    @howdy

I honestly don;t remember having anything longer than 2 steps as far as calcs.

So I won't give away any actual material, but so you realize how involved a few were..

Think of being given a list of financial information.. where you have to find a certain number that requires you to know a formula.. and you have to manipulate the given financial information (plugging them into other formulas that you had to know) to be able to get each factor to be used in the formula to find the answer.

So.. that would make it a multi-step calculation where you have to know multiple formulas to be able to get to the right answer.

Luckily the answers I was getting was usually one of the answer choices lol.

I hear from a lot of people who pass that they don't get many calculations at all, or that they are pretty basic. Maybe it was just my test.

However, I posted in the BEC exam experience thread right after I took it, and others who took it around the same time I did said the same things.. there were some nightmare calculation problems in the later testlets.

So just be prepared to be safe.

Sounds good. Sounds like crazy ratio and CVP questions to me.
