    Hello,

I am currently studying for BEC to take in the first window of 2014. I will be using the 2014 Becker materials to study as well as the 2013 Wiley BEC book. I have taken this exam before and failed with a 74 and 72! Watched the videos worked all questions in Becker, did parts of Wiley (should have probably worked every mc in the book). Any study hints or tips as to what one can do to get those extra points? and any info just about studying for BEC in general would help.

    Thanks

BEC is heavy MCQ. Do well on the MCQ. For me it was the repetition of the MCQ and reading the answers I got incorrect to make sense of it. I mean I prob did 1600 MCQ on the 10-12 topical areas of BEC. Sounds like overkill but it wasn't.

    AUD - (74),78
    BEC - 85
    FAR - 86
    REG - 84

    @giants13

What were your weak areas? I am also taking BEC in Jan/14 and this exam is not a joke. I am just lost in Bec 2 of Beckers.

Some of the questions does not click, no matter what. Really hope exam is not bad as Beckers MCQ.

I took BEC 2 month ago and failed with a 72. All I have now is the 2013 Becker book and I'm thinking about get the Ninja test bank or Wiley test bank.

Which do you all suggest and what's the best way to pass?

    FAR - 60(Spring 2014)
    BEC - 73 (Spring/Winter) 2014)
    REG - Summer 2014
    AUD - Summer 2014

Hi all, I'm in the same boat. I failed BEC with a 68 and then most recently (12/6) with a 72. I'm using Becker and the 10-pt combo light. Cost was the area that I struggled the most with in college and I do NOT have a finance background so basically B1-B3 are a fog. My mind just isn't built this way. I'm retaking on 1/13 before busy season hits full force. I clearly have no insight on how to pass ;). but wanted to post to say you aren't alone and thank you for posting this thread :). I'm hoping we will get some insight.

    FAR - passed, 11/12
    AUD - passed, 5/13

@Iron_Victory thanks for the info, did you read alot of the text of whatever study materials you had though or just mainy mc repetition?

@ipasscpa My weaker areas I felt were always B2 and B3. I definitly understand being lost in some of the mc?s in becker sometimes it is very frustrating and the solutions do not help. That being said I always tried to really know those smaller sections that much better to make up for being weaker in B2 and B3.

@Slacker321 I can only speak for the 2013 Wiley book, but Wiley seemed like good study material. Some sections like corporate gov were very short (not to many mc) but then other sections were very long (ton of mc). I would say any other materials would help as long as you just get some more practice with mc, especially with BEC. Also I have checked the 2014 Wiley materials online and they have merged with CPA Excel but I dont know if this means more mc or not.

@Giants13 I did do the reading and I watched the video lectures but none of it hit home that well for me. Basically I would read the chapter and go do the homework they assigned and score terribly.

2 weeks before the exam I was still struggling with almost every topic so I decided to just MCQ blitz. Hit every topic until I was getting 80% or better. Then I would repeat areas I was weak on. Thankfully in my review course (Kaplan) there was only 10 major categories. Areas where I struggled the most I went and created a 100 question quiz on just that topic and tried to understand what the heck I was missing.

BEC is weighted as such that 80% of the score comes from MCQ though the AICPA states it is possible but not plausible to pass with only MCQ. Focus a little bit on your writing skills if they are bad or just rusty to bridge the gap to a passing score. If you search the forums here there are tons of topics with helpful tips on BEC writing section.

    Good luck.
