    Hello Guys,

Yesterday I saw my BEC result. I am fail in the exam. This is my second attempt and I am unhappy with my score. I am using Becker for my studies. I don’t want to give BEC exam again for sometime. As my confidence in BEC is very low.

Now I am preparing for FAR. Is this a right decision. Or should I drop the decision of becoming CPA. Everybody is saying I cannot do this.

    BEC – 51(11/23/2014), 60(05/29/2015).

What should I do. Please suggest.

    Hi Ninjas,

I got a question on BEC.

Same question on both Ninja mcq and Beckers passmaster but both are showing different answers.

As per Becker it is A where as Ninja says B

    Please clarify…….

    Question:

Based on potential sales of 500 units per year, a new product has estimated traceable costs of $990,000. What is the target price per unit to obtain a 15% profit margin on sales using the traditional markup calculation?

    Incorrect A. $2,329

    B. $2,277

    C. $1,980

    D. $1,935

You answered A. The correct answer is B.

My first 2 exams were BEC and I got a 74 and 72. I moved on and took a stab at REG. Got a 71! It was then that I got honest with myself and decided to change things up. I started hammering MCQ a lot more and passed my REG retake, then came back to BEC and passed that next.

Logic does say to do BEC again, but those fails can be extremely discouraging. Look at what your habits are and aim again from a different angle.

pracap: the becker answer is correct. A.

    990000/.85 = 1164705.88, then divide by 500 units = 2329.41.

the reverse, 1164705.88 times .85 (traceable costs) = 989999.98 (close enough to the 990k)

Thanks everyone for your support and suggestions. The points which you all are suggesting, I will definitely work on those. I will change my approach and view towards solving any questions. I will not think about what others are saying.

My first language is not English. That is why I am not that good in writing. Yes I was not practicing written communication that much, have to focus more on that. My more focus was only on MCQ's , because I want to understand the concepts.

No, I am not practicing any other MCQ's besides Becker.

I will retake BEC in August again. This time I will do MCQ and more written communication.

My instructor advised us to have a prepared introduction and conclusion. One you can memorize and use for all your communications. These would essentially only need to fill in blanks for subject matter. I haven't started studying BEC too in depth at this point or I would give you some suggestions.

You can pass the exam without the communications part. You are studying for much longer each day than can truly be productive. I would recommend you spend one day watching a lecture and then the next 4-5 days mastering the material in the lecture. BEC requires tons of memorization.

Don't give up! I was in the same boat as you last year. I failed BEC twice, actually REG too, I felt like giving up but I didn't. I am 2/4 right now (BEC and REG) and at times I felt like this was a waste of time and money! However, if this is really what you want to do don't give up! No matter how many times you try and fail you have to get back up and continue!

I would try BEC again, give yourself a couple of weeks to unwind and do fun things! However, BEC is still fresh in your mind even if you dont' think it is. Just try again. Also don't slack on the written part.

The real failure is when you give up. Keep trying @prospectivecpa.

My strategy is CONCEPTS, CONCEPTS, CONCEPTS! If you go straight to MCQs without understanding the concepts, you will just end up memorizing the answers. I used this strategy for my CPA Philippines (2004), CIA Global (2011), and now CPA US. It always works for me! And of course, a lot of prayers!

    Good luck!

@prospectivecpa, I am not a native speaker either. I failed BEC at the first try with 68. I got comparable on WC. You just have to pretend like you're sitting the exam and time yourself in writing 3 essays, practice until you can write any topic you have not seen before and your writing still looks professional. I am retaking bec in July. Good luck to you ( me as well!)

    REG: 77 x2
    BEC: 81 x3
    FAR: 68 retake 10/1
    AUD: 8/27
