5 Weeks to go….BEC, FAR or REG???

    Hi all,

I just took audit this past weekend (don’t want to talk about it b/c I really don’t know how I did!), but no time to stress, I need to start on the next one…

With about five weeks ago, I need to decide which part I am going to sit for next. I am thinking FAR may be too much to handle, especially with Thanksgiving falling in there. I am going to schedule as close to the end of the month as possible. I don’t know about REG, is it possible in 5 weeks? This leaves me with BEC….can it be done???? Please share your experiences!

    Thanks,

    Dave

FAR is def out of the question that test is the BIGGEST beast of them all!. I actually like studing for REG but I don't know how I did! BEC is the worst!!!! I hate that topic and my test is in 7 days. So with all that I said I would say what are your strenghts and weakness?? Law is borning but doable and I find taxes interesting. But there are TONS of calulations in BEC and I see a few duplicates from my studying of FAR. So my vote is REG!

    FAR 76
    REG 76(2x)
    BEC FAILED (2x)
    AUD FAILED (2x)

I disagree with gottagetmycpa… BEC has the least content and I think it would be the best choice for a 5 week study plan. I also think that REG is possibly harder than FAR this year. Just my two cents.

    FAR: 71, 77
    BEC: 70, 82
    AUD: 62, 78
    REG: 71, 68, 85

I agree with Kandis. BEC is doable in 5 weeks. REG and FAR are not doable unless you study full time.

    BEC- 80
    REG- 68, 71, July
    AUD- 61 , 84
    FAR- -- 75 🙂

Would any of your answers change if you knew devantay didn't work, had no kids, and did nothing but study 12 hours a day? I'm in his/her situation and wondering the same thing.

    AUD - 88
    FAR - 90
    REG - 85
    BEC - 88

Since BEC is the only one I passed, I say go BEC. Studying for FAR right now and smaller chance you could feel successful in passing in only 5 weeks. Just my opinion. Haven't taken REG, but as everyone else says on here, it's difficult too. BEC wasn't too bad in my opinion and if studied effectively, could be passed in 5 weeks.

jjm1181, did you feel at a disadvantage taking BEC before FAR?

    AUD - 88
    FAR - 90
    REG - 85
    BEC - 88

Not at all. Almost completely different topcis. I actually like BEC more because the majority of the topics are conceptual and not computational. I can read and memorize and understand all day, but when you start throwing figures at me, that's when I personally get messed up.

With BEC, it's all about economics, IT, capital management, CORSO, and other random topics. It's not so run together like AUD, REG and FAR.

I had a quick question and found no better place to ask it ,other than this forum…

I just started studying for BEC yesterday..I was procrastinating a lot since the last few days and now regret it. My exam is booked for 12th Nov. and my NTS expires on the 13th….I have no job and my mom looks after my 5 year old full time..

Is it doable in 3 weeks, if I study effectively? Can anyone suggest atleast how many hours should I put in on a daily basis..

I'm feeling very nervous about it as its my first CPA exam..I hope someone can help me out.

@praying_for_75 – I think BEC can be done in 3 weeks if you can commit to making studying your full time job. Assuming you can study approx. 6-8 hours per day, I think you should be fine. Devote your last week to 8-10-hour days full of review and MCQs until you go cross-eyed and don't worry so much about the WCs as you can't truly prepare for those. Just make sure you leave yourself plenty of time to craft a solid memo and proofread it. Above all, make sure you repeat the key language contained in the question (to prove you're “on point”). After that, it should be a sinch.

This was mainly my method except I studied about 4 1/2 weeks at 6 hours/day.

    FAR 88 (07/15/11)
    BEC 83 (08/31/11)
    AUD 81 (10/15/11)
    REG 83 (11/26/11)

@KasiaS- Thanks for the reassurance… I'm using Becker…May I ask which study material did you use for BEC and if you thought that you were prepared sufficiently ?

Congrats on your amazing scores on FAR and BEC…and good luck for the remaining two !

Thanks! I'm impatiently waiting on the AUD score…it's hard to believe I may actually have it by the end of next week!

I'm using NIU Correspondence CPA Review (cpareview.niu.edu) for all 4 sections and I felt very prepared for the 3 sections that I already sat for. I wasn't sure how well or poorly I did walking out of the exams but I was certain that I passed. Hopefully that same feeling will be right about AUD.

Happy studies and good luck with BEC! Another word of advice, make sure you're solid on Corporate Governance and COSO. I'm certain that was what put my score in the 80's.

    FAR 88 (07/15/11)
    BEC 83 (08/31/11)
    AUD 81 (10/15/11)
    REG 83 (11/26/11)

go to cpareviewforfree.com and take one test of each (only 20q won't take forever) Whichever one you score highest in is probably the one you have the most proficiency in right out of the gate and will need the least studying of the 3.

    FAR- 77
    AUD -49, 71, 84
    REG -56,75!
    BEC -75

If you take Aud first, it will be helpful for IT and COSO on BEC. But if you are strong on Finance, Eco, and Cost accounting, you can give BEC a try. Five weeks are a good amount of time if you study fulltime. I only spent 6 weeks for FAR which is the longest time I spent on any sections that I have taken. I vote for Aud, or BEC.
