Did anyone get tripped up like me on this question thinking it was net income:

Hanley Company purchased a machine for $125,000 which will be depreciated on the straight-line basis over a five-year period with no salvage value. The related cash flow from operations, net of income taxes, is expected to be $45,000 a year. Assume that Hanley's effective income tax rate is 40% for all years?
    A. 16%
    B. 24%
    C. 28%
    D. 36%

I’m taking BEC next Friday. I intentionally saved it for my last exam, thinking that as an analyst (turned supervisor) in a large corporate environment it would be “easiest” for me. After taking one mock exam, the whole thing feels so laborious! Between all the math and the written responses, I’m worried I’ll have a hard time finishing—when that was never an issue with the other 3 exams. I also don’t know how to keep all of the ratios and formulas straight. Any last minute tips in light of these frustrations? Thanks!

@sarahmaru – good luck on your exam this Friday! I understand how you feel. A lot of people perceive BEC as the easiest section of the CPA exam due to its high passing rate compared to other sections'. I agree with them to a certain extent, but I can see why it can be overwhelming.

I'd write down all the ratios and formulas on paper repetitively until you can memorize them. It just seems like a lot of these BEC concepts are review for me since I took all the relevant courses in my undergrad. I highly doubt you will have a difficult time with BEC given your passing scores on other sections.

@nikki: Sorry it took me so long to get back. Been busy taking care of things I had been neglecting on the home front. To answe your question – yes,I’m planning on reviewing BEC until score release… which I am NOT looking forward to. Its just really hard to pick up that BEC book. Looks like some folks got SIMS that actually made sense. Lucky lucky

Like I said, becker forgot to put in B7 which would have covered these off topics from my SIMS 😂

Btw @nikki: was your SIM experience similar to mine?

Can you tell I’m looking for more people to say yes? Haha

@Allsheneededwassome, I didn't have any foreign questions on my SIMS. They were pretty straightforward. But I did spend too much time on my MCQs and I know I made a mistake on one of my SIMS because I was rushing and I barely finished the last WC. I don't know what to expect on score release. My MCQs were hard.

I think I will do maybe 2 MCQ sessions per week until score release. I don't think I can handle much more. LOL

Anyone on here using Wiley? I'm about halfway through the Economics Concepts and Analysis section and it's a complete YAWN!! Ok, economics, I get it. I don't want a PHD in it. I sure hope my exam doesn't go crazy with the econ questions. With my luck, I'll get the full 27% of questions in that content area. I was humming along with the internal control, COSO and ERM but I'm losing focusing with the economics material. Anyone else not feeling this content area?

@pdiddy, I felt the same way when I took it. I have never liked economics. Yawn fest lol

Check out ACDCLeadership on Youtube. Jacob Clifford has posted a multitude of economics videos that aren't as dry and boring as Wiley.

@CPAoneday thanks! I'll check that out.

@Nikki374 simply brutal. Bad planning on my part to time me go through this section on an early Friday evening after work on memorial day weekend. Why do I picture everyone who's not studying is packing up and heading to the beach? lol

Happy studying all my Q2 BEC takers!! Stay focused this weekend!!

    Hi all,

Long time reader, first time poster here. I just finished the all of the modules for Becker and I am in the review stage. I'm getting worried reading the posts of people saying that they did not feel Becker prepared them enough for the exam. What are you guys doing/what would you have done (if you have already taken it) to supplement that information you missed on the exam? I don't know about you guys but the IT module didn't seem to follow the MCQs at all. It's my last exam hopefully and I don't want to buy anymore materials.

    AUD – 89
    BEC – Taking 6/3/18
    REG – 87
FAR – 5/4/18, waiting for score release.

@Kristen, I agree. It freaks me out too. It sounds like the consensus is that the exam is math heavy. I am focusing on hammering the math-heavy sections. I take my exam June 7. Obviously I will be working on everything, but just really making sure I have my equations and stuff for sure. Making flashcards to practice equations, and a ton of MCQs.
Anyone else agree/disagree? That is all I can think to do.

    @kristen

I am using Becker to prepare, as well. I supplemented the COSO, Econ, and IT sections with a free trial from Wiley. If I have time before my exam, I will get the 2 day free trial from Roger and drill their MCQs on those 3 sections.

    Update:

    Becker Mock Exams for BEC:
    1 – 54% (76% MCQ, 31% SIMS)
    2 – 71% (80% MCQ, 59% SIMS)

    F – 91
    A – 88
    R – ??
    B – 6/4
